                          NDACTE YOUNG EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR

                          DESCRIPTION AND CRITERIA FOR EACH AWARD

CAREER AND TECHNICAL TEACHER OF THE YEAR
For an active NDACTE member currently employed as a classroom teacher in a career & technical
education programs other than at the baccalaureate level. Achievements on which the nomination is
based should have been made within the last ten years. There must be evidence of innovative, unique
and novel programs that improve and promote career & technical education. The nominee must have
been a member of NDACTE for the past five consecutive years, and may not be a former winner of this
award.

Criteria for this award will be evaluated based on the narrative submitted as a part of the application and
shall be:
A. 40 Points Maximum:                    Position description; characteristics of the program that are
                                         innovative or unique; indicators of program and teacher
                                         effectiveness.
B. 30 Points Maximum:                    Professional membership, participation, publications,
                                         presentations and other professional association activities.
C. 20 Points Maximum:                    Community activities and participation; civic, fraternal and/or
                                         honorary memberships.
D. 10 Points Maximum:                    Education and work experience.

CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR
For an active NDACTE member currently employed as a full-time baccalaureate teacher educator, state
or local administrator, guidance counselor, or program specialist. There must be evidence of significant
contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs and/or improvement, promotion, research or
development of career & technical education programs. The nominee must have been a member of
NDACTE for the past five consecutive years, and may not be a former winner of this award.

Criteria for this award will be evaluated based on the narrative submitted as a part of the application and
shall be:

A. 40 Points Maximum:                    Position description; characteristics of the program that are
                                         innovative or unique; Indicators of program and teacher
                                         effectiveness.
B. 30 Points Maximum:                    Professional membership, participation, publications,
                                         presentations and other professional association activities.
C. 20 Points Maximum:                    Community activities and participation; civic, fraternal and/or
                                         honorary memberships.
D. 10 Points Maximum:                    Education and work experience.

YOUNG EDUCATOR OF THE YEAR
For an active NDACTE member currently employed as a classroom teacher in a career & technical
education program and who has taught in a career & technical education program, other than at the
baccalaureate level, for a minimum of three but not more than five years. The nominee must have made
significant contributions toward innovative, unique and novel programs, and have shown a professional
commitment early in the teaching career. Age of the nominee is not a determining factor.

Criteria for this award will be evaluated based on the narrative submitted as a part of the application and
shall be:

                                 NDACTE APPRECIATION AWARD
                             NDACTE LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD

                          DESCRIPTION AND CRITERIA FOR EACH AWARD

NDACTE SERVICE AWARD
For an active NDACTE member in recognition of extended and meritorious contributions to the
improvement, promotion, development and progress of career & technical education. The nominee
should be one who has made contributions or achieved prominence over and above regular assignments
as a teacher, teacher educator, career & technical education administrator, program specialist, or state
vocational staff member. Achievements on which the nomination is based must have been made within
the last ten years. The nominee must have been a member of NDACTE for the past five consecutive
years, and may not be a former winner of this award.

Criteria for this award will be evaluated based on the narrative submitted as a part of the application and
shall be:
A. 40 Points Maximum:                      Significant contributions to career & technical education.
B. 30 Points Maximum:                      National, regional and state activities, including honors or
                                           recognition, professional offices and committee appointments.
C. 20 Points Maximum:                      Local activities, including honors or recognition’s, professional
                                           offices and committee appointments.
D. 10 Points Maximum:                      Publications.

NDACTE APPRECIATION AWARD
For a person or persons who have rendered outstanding service to career & technical education in North
Dakota in a capacity other than as a career & technical education teacher, teacher educator, career &
technical education administrator, program specialist or state staff member. Nominees for this award
need not be NDACTE members, and may not be a former winner of this award.

Criteria for this award will be evaluated based on the narrative submitted as a part of the application and
shall be:
A. 40 Points Maximum:                      Impact of support through sponsored programs.
B. 30 Points Maximum:                      Impact of support through activities other than A, C, and D.
C. 20 Points Maximum:                      Impact of support through publications.
D. 10 Points Maximum:                      Impact of support through financial considerations.

NDACTE LEGISLATOR OF THE YEAR AWARD
For a person in the state or national legislative branch of government who has served in that office for
more than one year. The nominee should be one who has worked with career &technical educators on
legislative issues, who communicates career & technical education concerns to others in the legislative
body, has assisted in enacting legislation beneficial to career & technical education students, and has had
involvement in local career & technical education programs.

Criteria for this award will be evaluated based on the narrative submitted as a part of the application and
shall be:
A. 40 Points Maximum:                      Examples of collaboration and consultation with career &
                                           technical educators on legislative issues.
B. 30 Points Maximum:                      Examples of assistance in enacting legislation beneficial to
                                           career & technical education students.
C. 20 Points Maximum:                      Examples of communicating career & technical education
                                           legislative concerns to others in the legislative body.
D. 10 Points Maximum:                      Examples of personal involvement in career & technical
                                           education programs.
