Changing of the Guard For Employee Council
The NewCourtland Elder Services Network Employee Council welcomed 13 new
members at its final meeting of 2007. The Employee Council brings together
representatives from each nursing home in the NewCourtland Network on a
monthly basis to exchange ideas, problems, and solutions with NewCourtland
Elder Services’ President & CEO, Gail Kass.
The new Employee Council members are:

Network-Wide 2007 Holiday Art Contest Winners
Residents from the NewCourtland Network were invited to participate in a Network-Wide
Holiday Art Contest in October 2007. Participants were asked to collaborate with local
artists, and to create unique, holiday-themed artwork to be displayed throughout the
nursing homes.
Approximately 70 people participated, with six residents awarded for their creations:
• 1st Prize – Mary McLean, Maplewood Manor – Decorative Trinket Box
• 2nd Prize – Seleda Taylor, Maplewood Manor – Decorative Trinket Box
• 3rd Prize – Christine Thompson, Ernestine Bond, Bessie Smith, and Margaret Ridgley, 1st Prize – Mary McLean, Maplewood

Care Pavilion Employee Awarded Scholarship
Stanley Dawson, dietary store room clerk at Care Pavilion, was awarded a
scholarship by SEPANPHA (the Southeastern chapter of the Pennsylvania
Association for Non-Profit Homes for the Aging) on December 13.
Mr. Dawson , a member of the NewCourtland Network since 2004, said he will put
the scholarship money towards computer classes with the hope of advancing his
career.
“It feels great,” said Mr. Dawson, “this can help me move up to a higher position in
the dietary department. I really appreciate the award.”
Every year SEPANPHA awards scholarships to non-nursing personnel at their annual
Management Forum.

Rican Exchange Students
The Maplewood Manor Reading Buddies program hosted Costa Rican
exchange students from Greene Street Friends School on November 11.
The students entertained the residents with traditional Costa Rican
songs and dance routines.
