                 Why Do You Need a Project Management Certificate?
                 Corporate managing of large projects and businesses is becoming increasingly complex and
                 competitive. Advanced Project Management is seen as a way to improve predictability, efficiency
                 and effectiveness on projects.    The Project Management Certification Program (PMC) provides varied and challenging learning
                 experiences. It was developed in cooperation with industry and takes advantage of the latest
                 research conducted in Project Management. The PMC contains five courses leading to a certificate
                 titled “Project Management Certification – Foundation Courses”. Each course is delivered over two
                 days with the full program totalling 60 educational and professional development hours recognized
                 by Project Management Institute (PMI) and other professional associations. The Certificate is
                 awarded by the Schulich School of Engineering at the University of Calgary.
                 Who Should Attend?
                 The program is offered to practicing engineers, architects, constructors, project managers, owners
                 and key project management support personnel in those areas that are essential for the effective
                 execution of capital projects.

                 Schedule and Content
                 Course 1 – November 6-7, 2009 / Project Management – Best Practices
                 This course provides an overview and framework of project management processes and
                 applications. Topics will include the application of management principles to the project
                 environment; planning, control, scope, time and cost processes; project organization and human
                 resource issues. Participants will explore the practical applications of project management
                 techniques through the review of case studies to understand best practices.

                 Course 2 – December 4-5, 2009 / Project Planning and Control-Tools and Techniques
                 This course covers tools, processes and methods for planning and controlling projects. Topics
                 include the tools and techniques for project selection and evaluation, project alignment, scope
                 definition, risk analysis, evaluation of alternatives, scheduling, decision analysis, cost and schedule
                 control and the application of case studies.

                 Course 3 – January 8-9, 2010 / Project Team Building

                 Course 5 – March 5-6, 2010 / Dynamic Leadership
                 This course provides a platform for the development of leadership skills through an examination of
                 areas where tools, processes and competencies in project management can be improved. The
                 course uses new developments in neuro science to examine thinking skills and challenges in project
                 management with a focus on decision-making, providing effective leadership and building trust.
                 Participants will learn from cases and workshops as well as from the thinking exercises.
