2nd Semester Book Report Projects Project 1 Due January 30, 2009 1. Read a book of your choice. 2. Do a brief written report on the book. 3. Prepare a book jacket that really illustrates the kind of book as well as the story. 4. If you could meet one of the characters, who would it be? List (5) questions you would ask him or her. What answers do you think you would receive? 5. Find an example of stress or frustration in the book. Tell about it. How did the character resolve it? 6. Write a poem about the book. *Remember, the book report as well as all of the above items will be due on Friday, January 30, 2009. * Project 2 Due February 23, 2009 1. Read a biography or an autobiography of a noted African American . 2. Prepare a short, interesting, typed- written report on the person. 3. Explain how the book could be used in social studies or science. 4. List 10 new words and/or expressions that you encountered while reading that you can add to your vocabulary. 5. Write a note to the media specialist suggesting why she ought to recommend or promote the book to other students. *Remember, the type- written report, as well as the other related activities will be due on Monday, February 23, 2009.* Project 3 Due March 23, 2009 1. Read a book of your choice. 2. Do a poster board report using the following instructions: Poster is divided into five sections. Each section of the poster must have a summary of that section and a color illustration. Section One: Introduction of the book. Who are the characters in the story? Tell a little about each one. Create an illustration of those characters in a scene from the beginning. Section Two: Describe the main character(s). Tell about their role in the story and what conflict or problem they are facing. Create an illustration of the main character. Section Three: Summarize the story from the beginning up to, but not including, the climax of the story. Section Four: Tell about the climax of the story and draw a scene to depict it. Section Five: Describe the resolution of the story. Create an illustration of this. Poster Board* (22in.x27 ½) Finished written portions of the poster must be neat and legible. Written portions of this project should be no less than one paragraph per section. All illustrations must be in color. (No Pencil) *Remember, this book report project is due on Monday, March 23, 2009.* Project 4 Due April 27, 2009 1. Pair up with a partner. 2. Decide (together) on a book to read 3. Organize a pro and con presentation to be given orally to the class. Consider the characters, setting, plot, dialogue, and theme of the book. 4. Work with your partner to write a song or rap about the book, to be presented to the class. If you have music software, set the song to music .*Remember, this book presentation is due on Monday, April 27, 2009*
