551610 AIR CONDITIONING/HEATING I
Description This course provides entry-level training in heating and air conditioning occupations.
Instruction covers the following areas: basic heating theory; heating appliances, requirements
and controls; design and layout; sizing; installation; electrical wiring; and troubleshooting.
Students use assorted hand tools and meters. Approximately 120 hours of attendance are
required for course completion.
Prerequisites Some Saturday classes may be required. Schedule details will be provided at the first class

551203 CONSTRUCTION ELECTRICIAN I
Description This course provides instruction in the national electrical code, material terminology, use and
care of hand tools, basic math/Ohm's Law, branch circuits, over-current protection, basic
AC/DC theory, low voltage systems, conduit bending. Job-seeking/job-keeping skills are part
of the instruction. Students train for jobs in residential or commercial wiring, or as repair and
maintenance electricians. Approximately 180 hours of attendance are needed to complete the
course.
Prerequisites Some Saturday classes may be required. Schedule details will be provided at the first class
meeting. The tuition for this course is free. Purchase of a text book is recommended, but
not required. The course is a combination of classroom lecture and hands-on training in
the lab area.
Counseling This course does not have State approval for classroom training, which is required for
Information State Electrician Certification. Upon successful completion of this course (term-1 and
term-2), a Certificate of Competency will be awarded.

429811 NURSE ASSISTANT
Description This course provides entry-level occupational skills training to be a nurse assistant.
Employment possibilities include nurse assistant or aide, and hospital assistant. Instruction
covers the following areas: basic nursing skills, ethics and safety in hospital settings.
Students use equipment which includes: thermometers, stethoscopes, wheelchairs,
sphygmomanometers, scales, hospital beds, and stretchers. Approximately 243 hours are
required for completion of the course. These hours include classroom, laboratory and clinical
experiences. Upon successful completion, students qualify to take the written and clinical
State Certification Examinations.
Prerequisites Must have proof of a negative TB skin test within three months. If the skin test is
documented as positive, the student must provide a negative chest x-ray and completed TB
symptom questionnaire.
Counseling Hepatitis B screening and/or inoculation is strongly recommended for student health
Information protection. Clinical training is conducted in an off-school site, therefore, students must
conform to dress codes and other standards required by training site management. This
course is designed for adults and high school graduates. White uniforms and white shoes
are required for clinical practice. A fee of approximately $90 will be required for the state
certification examination.
The overall cost for this course is approximately $350.

Description This course provides entry-level training in plumbing occupations such as, plumber's helper,
pipe layer, plumbing maintenance worker and parts clerk. Instruction covers the following
areas: plumbing systems and theories, plumbing codes, plumbing tools and materials, and
safety practices. Students use equipment which includes torches, cutoff saws, pipe threaders,
pipe cutting tools and assorted hand tools. Approximately 120 hours of attendance are
required to complete the course, although completion depends upon the student's skills and
rate of progress in the class.
Prerequisites Some Saturday classes may be required. Schedule details will be provided at the first class
meeting.
Counseling The tuition for this course is free. Text books will be provided for in-class use only. The

552403 PLUMBING II
Description This course provides skill upgrading in plumbing occupations. Instruction is focused on the
latest adopted Uniform Plumbing Code adopted by the State of California and published by
the International Association of Plumbing and Mechanical Officials (IAPMO). . Subjects
covered are code requirements, regulations and interpretations of: Administration;
Definitions; General Regulations; Plumbing Fixtures; Water Heaters and Vents; Water
Supply and Distribution; Sanitary Drainage; Fuel Gas Piping; Medical Gas; and Referenced
Standards. Students use equipment and materials which includes: Uniform Plumbing Code;
IAPMO Illustrated Training Manual: calculators, architectural scales; triangles; punches;
scantrons; orthographic and isometric drawings; and IAPMO Illustrated Manual.
Approximately 120 hours are required to complete this course.
Prerequisites Successful completion of Plumbing I. To enroll into Plumbing II, students must submit a
photocopy of their Plumbing I Certificate of Compentency to the instructor prior to
admittance to the classroom.
Counseling The textbooks used in class are the 2006 Uniform Plumbing Code and the Illustrated
Information Training Manual. These books are essential to a thorough understanding of the subject
material, and will be needed no later than the 3rd week of class. Purchase information will
be provided during the first class meeting. Note: there are a few class-sets available for
use in the classroom (only) on an as needed basis, but these are not intended to replace the
student's own set of text books.
Site Notes The tuition for this course is free, and there is no pre-registration required. All enrollment
forms will be filled out the first night of class, which meets in Room B-3. This TR class
is currently offered at our campus in the West City-Clairemont area.
Other Info There are 40 seats available for the Plumbing-2 class. Priority for enrollment is given to
students who have successfully completed Plumbing-1. If all 40 seats are not filled by
Plumbing-1 "completers", it may be possible to enroll in this class by passing a challenge
test administered by the instructor during the first week of class.

Description This course provides upgrade and advanced training in plumbing occupations. Employment
possibilities include plumber, estimator, pipefitter and plumber apprentice. Instruction covers
the following areas: layout and design, sizing of piping systems, materials, specialized
systems, public relations, tests and inspections, solar tests and inspections, advanced
plumbing math, safety requirements, advanced theory, plumbing and solar codes. Thjis
course will also include expected workplace skills and behaviors, job acquisition and career
advancement. Students will use saws, rigid chain cutters, thread-o-matics, triangles,
T-squares matics and scales. Approximately 120 hours are required to complete this course.
Completion depends upon a student's skill level and completion skill competencies.
Prerequisites It is recommended, but not mandatory that students complete Plumbing-1 and Plumbing-2
prior to taking Plumbing-3. Some Saturday classes may be required. Schedule details will

576203 SCREEN PRINTING/INTRODUCTORY
Description This course provides entry-level and upgrade training in screen process printing. Employment
possibilities include computer pre-press operator, stencil cutter, stencil maker and screen
printer. Instruction covers the following areas; art preparation computer pre-press, scanning,
file transfer, laser film output for spot and halftone images, stripping, color separation, stencil
cutting, indirect/direct stencil methods, mesh/frame calculation and preparation, the methods
of stencil and ink reclaiming, various types of squeegees, set-up of single and multi-color
illustrations from textile, decal and poster printing, the use of various inks, thinners and
retarders, the use of conveyor and flash heat dryers, product packaging, cost estimating,
work-efficiency, creating a resume, and enhancing marketing skills. Prior to completing the
course, students must demonstrate the ability to create and print three separate designs of up
to two colors or more. Students are required to purchase their own supplies and materials.
Approximately 208 hours are required to complete the course. Enrollment is offered during
the Fall and Spring semesters.
Prerequisites This course is recommended for students with high-school-level skills in reading, writing,
and math, as well as a graphics or art background. Students should be free from any
physical disabilities that would prevent them from bending and stooping. Students must be
able to read job orders and operations manuals.
Counseling Students must be capable of following written and verbal instructions. Good manual
Information dexterity, eyesight and hand/eye coordination are helpful. The Screen Printing course runs
throughout the entire year (July - June). New students may only start this class each Fall
(in September) or each Spring (in January). Please note that Summer hours are open to
continuing students only. The instructor will fill openings as space becomes available. To

575725 STAMP MAKER/PRINTER
Description This course provides entry-level training in making rubber stamps, plus an introduction to
offset printing press operation. Classroom instruction and shop experience includes: safety,
tools and equipment, composing cold type, processing camera operation and digital and
negative stripping, forming stamp dies using merigraph, maxlight and vulcanization
processes, paper and metal plate making, offset printer operation, and assembling finished
stamps. This course is open entry - open exit. Approximately 410 hours of attendance are
needed for course completion. Completion depends upon the student's entry-level skills and
rate of progress in the class.
Prerequisites Students must have basic reading and memory ability.
Site Notes This course is held at the U.C.P. Ready Stamps classroom, located in the Qualcomm

428002 VOCATIONAL NURSE
Description This eighteen month course provides training in vocational nursing and is accredited by the
Board of Vocational Nurse and Psychiatric Technicians in Sacramento. Upon graduation the
student is eligible to take the Board exam for Vocational Nursing license. Jobs for vocational
nurses are in acute care hospitals, home health, convalescent hospitals, clinics, doctors'
offices, industry and California State correctional institutions. This is an academically
rigorous curriculum which requires strong English, math, spelling and natural science basic
skills. Instruction covers the following areas: Fundamentals of Nursing, Medical Surgical
Nursing, Anatomy and Physiology, Nutrition, Pharmacology, Psychology, Growth and
Development, Maternal, Neonatal Nursing and Pediatrics. Theory includes the nursing
process as it relates to specific disease processes and treatment and prevention of diseases.
Theory and clinical experience correlate. Students complete 492.5 hours of theory and 856
hours of clinical/skills lab instruction. This program meets evenings and weekends.
Prerequisites -- High School diploma or GED
-- Successful completion of ROP Healthcare Essentials course (or another course with
comparable content)
-- Successful completion of a Nursing Assistant course & current NA certification.
Passing score on the (TEAS) Test of Essential Academic Skills test.
Counseling To be eligible for enrollment into the Vocational Nursing courses, students must be
