Choose one of the following tasks to complement the piece of writing you have already
undertaken in class. You may not choose to repeat the same task.


Task 1

Write about a novel/short story you have read and enjoyed. Give a brief account of what it is
about. In more detail, show how the author uses key elements to communicate ideas,
opinions or attitudes or to create effects which made the text enjoyable for you. You may
wish to consider some or all of the following key elements: choice of language, plot, theme,
characterisation and setting.

Task 2

Write about a poem you have read and enjoyed. Give a brief account of what it is about. In
more detail, show how the author uses key elements to communicate ideas, opinions or
attitudes or to create effects which made the poem enjoyable for you. You may wish to
consider some or all of the following key elements: choice of language, style, theme,
imagery, technical devices, rhythm and rhyme scheme.

Task 3

Write about a play you have read and enjoyed. Give a brief account of what it is about. In
more detail, show how the author uses key elements to communicate ideas, opinions or
attitudes or to create effects which made the play enjoyable for you. You may wish to
consider some or all of the following key elements: choice of language, plot, characterisation,
theme, setting, stage-technique and stage direction.

Task 4

Write about a novel/short story, poem or play you have read and enjoyed. Give a brief
account of what it is about. Choose a section or a scene which, through personal experience,
you have either been able to relate to or have felt strongly opposed to. In detail, write a
personal response which shows an understanding of what the author is trying to communicate
and your ideas about it.
