                       Treasure Island: Foreshadowing Essay

Overview of assignment: The goal of this essay is to use specific examples from the text
to illustrate how Robert Louis Stevenson provides some early warning signs
(foreshadowing) that mutiny will occur aboard The Hispaniola.

Format:
   4 paragraphs
        An introductory paragraph that includes a thesis statement (your argument)
        2 body paragraphs with specific quotes and explanations.
        A concluding paragraph, which restates your thesis statement and hammers
          home your argument by pointing to the events that prove your argument.

      Introduction: Introduce novel, author, and purpose for the essay. Include your
argument as the last sentence in the first paragraph.

       Body Paragraph’s #1 and #2
        For each, write about specific examples (quotes) of foreshadowing from
          before the true plans for a mutiny were discovered in the “apple barrel.” Try
          to show how certain crew member’s suspicions were correct all along and that
          the ship was doomed from the start.
        Each quote must then be explained in your own words (what it means), and
          then why it is important must also be included in this paragraph.

        Conclusion: Restate argument (thesis statement) and how the events you chose
are proven by the conversation that Jim overhears in the apple barrel, along with any
events that occur after Chapter 11.
