VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Center Assistants at the Flagstaff Family YMCA 1001 N. Turquoise Dr Flagstaff, AZ 86001 The mission of the Northern Arizona College Resource Center is to increase the number of students who apply, are admitted, and attend college by providing appropriate information, technical assistance, advice, and referrals to students and their families regarding applying to and financing college or university studies. The Resource Center is designed to provide information, technical assistance, advising, and referrals to students and their parents/guardians regarding all aspects of the college admissions and financial aid process. Services will also include a variety of workshops and other community events to promote awareness of and access to post-secondary education. NACRC advisory board members and their staff will collaborate to provide programs and services and to fully promote the Center to the greater northern Arizona region. Responsibilities: Provide basic information about college, career and financial aid opportunities to young people and their families. Assist NACRC visitors with using print and computerized resources to identify schools and programs that match their interests and needs. Assist NACRC visitors with the decision-making process, helping them evaluate options and determine appropriate choices. . Assist with projects such as updating resources, updating student database, or other community activities when extra assistance is needed. Qualifications: Desire/ Experience and/or training in providing college, career or financial aid information and advice. Knowledge of and sensitivity to working with low income students and families. Familiarity with Internet and computer applications. Bilingual skills a plus! Translation services may be necessary in Navajo and/or Spanish. Volunteers make a minimum 6-month (semester long) commitment of 8 hours per month assisting students and a monthly volunteer meeting. Application Procedures: All volunteers are required to go through YMCA training (half-day, food will be provided) ,and a training specific to your NACRC role (half- full day depending on role).
