VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITY Occupational Mentor (***DIGITAL POSITION***) at the Flagstaff Family YMCA 1001 N. Turquoise Dr Flagstaff, AZ 86001 The mission of the Northern Arizona College Resource Center is to increase the number of students who apply, are admitted, and attend college by providing appropriate information, technical assistance, advice, and referrals to students and their families regarding applying to and financing college or university studies. The Resource Center is designed to provide information, technical assistance, advising, and referrals to students and their parents/guardians regarding all aspects of the college admissions and financial aid process. Services will also include a variety of workshops and other community events to promote awareness of and access to post-secondary education. NACRC advisory board members and their staff will collaborate to provide programs and services and to fully promote the Center to the greater northern Arizona region. Responsibilities: Participate in our occupational mentor database, allow students to contact you regarding your profession Assist high school students interested in your occupation learn more about the requirements for the profession: what college majors to consider, how much post-secondary education is required, etc. Potentially assist students in finding a job-shadowing or class-shadowing (college) opportunity If desired, participate as a panelist/speaker for NACRC/ community events related to careers and youth Follow up with students on your own to see if they would like more information about your particular occupation/college major Qualifications: College Juniors/Seniors, College Graduates, Trade/Art School Graduates Desire/Experience in working with youth. A plus if the role has been that of a mentor. Knowledge of and sensitivity to working with low-income students and families. Familiarity with internet and computer applications. Volunteers make a minimum 6 month commitment to be in our mentor database. Willingness to follow up with center and students. Bilingual skills a plus! Application Procedures: All volunteers are required to fill out a short survey for this position. Since this is a digital position you will not be required to go through volunteer training. ONLY email and phone conversations are allowed between mentor and mentee. However providing a facility tour/ job shadowing opportunity is allowed and encouraged but the Northern Arizona College Resource Center must be informed. The NACRC is always interested in having enthusiastic volunteers with an interest in education and youth to become a part of our program.
