Tax Credits are payments that you claim to help with everyday costs.
There are two types of Tax Credit:
  •    If you have children you may be eligible for Child Tax Credit.
       Nine out of ten families with children qualify for Child Tax Credit.
  •    If you are working and on a low income you may be eligible for
       Working Tax Credit to top up your earnings. You can claim
       whether you are employed or self-employed.


The Tax Credit Project at Barnet Citizens Advice Bureau can give
confidential, impartial advice on:
   •   whether you are entitled to Tax Credits
   •   whether you are getting the right amount
   •   how returning to work will affect your Tax Credit claim
   •   what changes you have to tell the Tax Credit office about
   •   what you can do if you have been overpaid
   •   what you can do if you are having difficulties with your Tax
       Credit claim.
