Credit Union Name Cooperative Federal Credit Union
Adult Financial Education Initiative Description In 2007 Cooperative Federal continued to expand its financial education services. In terms of group adult education, we do two things; we offer free financial seminars to members and the public and we partner with other community organizations to bring financial education to the people they serve. We also do one-on-one financial counseling, which is detailed elsewhere. In 2007 we offered, on average, about 5 public financial or small business training seminars per month and about a dozen multisession financial literacy courses to partner organizations over the course of a year. Most sessions were intimate groups of 10 people or less. The communities we serve are as diverse as our city and are often underserved by mainstream financial institutions; we've worked in centers for recent immigrants, women's shelters, community centers, libraries, small business centers, literacy centers, and many more places. Our classes are now taught by two full-time dedicated staff educators, other staff members, VISTAs and volunteers.
