ACCEPTANCE OF CREDIT CARD AND DEBIT CARD PAYMENTS
1. POLICY In the interest of facilitating cash flow, reducing paperwork, and to minimize debts resulting from N.S.F. cheques, the GN may accept payments by credit cards and debit cards in specified circumstances. 2. DIRECTIVE An agreement for the acceptance of payments by credit cards, must be approved by the Comptroller General (or delegate), and must be in compliance with this directive. The Comptroller General may terminate any credit card agreement without notice. Detailed processing instructions may be found in the Financial Procedures Manual (being developed). 2.1 Approved Credit Card Agreements The GN currently has agreements for the use of Visa Credit Cards, MasterCard Credit Cards and Debit Cards. Currently there are a limited number of locations. These may be used to receive payment of any amount owing to the GN or to pay for fees, licenses and permits, or products or services provided by the GN. 2.2 Requests for Additional Locations The Comptroller General (or delegate) will consider extensions of the existing agreements to other locations upon receipt of a written request. 2.3 Credit Card Costs All costs including initiation, forms, maintenance or equipment fees, and discount charge fees must be recorded as expenditures against the appropriation of the department, board or agency using the system. 2.4 Prohibitions related to Credit Card Accounts Cash disbursements against credit cards are prohibited.
