I've just finished the creation of a bunch of squeeze pages using Artisteer. It was an illuminating experience, because none of it was as straightforward as I thought. Here's how to save some time if you do it yourself. • Headings should use Tahoma: Go to Articles > Headings > Heading 1 and make the font Tahoma. It seems to be state of the art right now. It just looks better than Arial, and it works on the Mac too. • Important! Condense your headings. Heading 1 should be about 24 pixels high. Problem is, it just plain looks wrong. That's because pro designers always, always decrease the space between letters as font size gets higher. Headings look totally lame if you don't do this. In Artisteer, choose Articles > Headings > Heading 1 (or whatever) Font Options > Character spacing. It's in the lower half of the Options dialog. Next to Spacing choose Condensed. At the 24 pixel size of Heading 1 I like to use 2 pixel condensed width. • Make text and headers bold, using Tahoma for body text (Colors and Fonts > Typography > Edit Typography). • Make a fixed width page. All squeeze pages are fixed width these days. Choose Sheet > Width > 900 pixels. Doesn't have to be exactly 900 pixels, but best to keep it between 800 and 1024 pixels. • Give yourself some credit!
