WHAT IS HORIZONS? Forsyth County’s Horizons Gifted Program is a state funded program designed to meet the special needs of academically talented students. What do students do in Horizons class? Students participate in a curriculum that focuses on critical thinking skills, problem solving, creativity and other advanced skills. The units are varied and stimulating. How do students qualify for gifted program? There are specific state regulations concerning who is eligible for the program. Students may be referred to the Gifted Evaluation Team by: 1. Teachers 2. Parents and 3. Others The Gifted Evaluation Team will review the student’s permanent records, gather information from the classroom teacher and parents and decide if testing is an appropriate step for the student. If testing is recommended, a request for permission to test is sent home to the parents. Information must be gathered in the following four areas: 1. 2. 3. 4. Ability Achievement Creativity Motivation The student must have a qualifying score in three of these areas.
