Frequently Asked Questions Q1: I am a diploma holder with a Major in Psychology, do I need to take (PSY 371-72) Research Project and why? A1: Yes, because the overall standards of PSY 371-72 (applied across requirements, outcomes and assessment) are at the level of a Bachelor's degree. This alone differentiates it from PSY 501-02. Q2: I am a diploma holder Major in Psychology or Double Major in Psychology and Business or Double Major in Counselling and Psychology. What degree will I get when I finish the Conversion Programme? A2: Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Counselling and Psychology Q3: I am a diploma holder Major in Psychology or Double Major in Psychology and Business, why do I have to take COUN 461-2 Internship? A3: The graduate of the conversion programme must have received internship training, which applies “theories learnt in class and skills practiced both in class and during pre-internship training to real-life situations” before the Bachelor of Social Sciences (Honours) in Counselling and Psychology can be conferred. Regarding the Internship, many of our diploma holders are already in professions and employed at agencies that satisfy the requirements for a supervised internship placement. Those requirements include counselling five individual cases, adding up to a total of 30 sessions, and leading two groups for either activities or counselling. You will be required to have a certain amount of supervision, as well. Finally, please note that the conversion programme's internship structure will not be modelled after the 'two full days per week for 25 weeks' arrangement. For those diploma holders that are not employed in a counselling-related profession, indeed, hours at an agency or other institution qualifying for internship placement would have to be accumulated on weekends and or evenings. We understand that these requirements may be challenging for diploma holders Major in Psychology or Double Major Business and Psychology. Still, we leave the decision open to you to apply to this programme as it stands or join the conversion programme for our new Bachelors of Social Sciences with Honours in Psychology which is tentatively scheduled to begin after our first cohort of degree holders graduate in September, 2011. Q4: When will the conversion programme begin? A4: Our first cohort began classes 3 September 2008. Applications for our second cohort, to begin classes September 2009, will be accepted in early July 2009. Q5: I applied for the 2008 cohort but did not gain admittance. Do I need to reapply in order to be considered for the 2009 cohort? A5: No, you do not need to reapply. All applications for the 2008 cohort have been kept and are considered valid applications for the 2009 cohort. Beginning late May or early June 2009, we will contact you and ask: a) Are you interested in submitting your application to the 2009 Conversion Programme? b) If so, have you changed your postal address or added credentials since July 2008? With this information, we will use the application we currently have for you (the one you sent us in 2008), and put it through the application process again.
