Introduction This section of the Students’ Guide is devoted to answering all of your frequently asked questions. All the information answered in these questions can be found elsewhere in the guide, as each question will reference a section to look in for more information. These questions address the more common occurrences, problems, and conundrums that students experience at Haverford, from how to reserve a room to what the alcohol policy allows. This section also explains who you should contact and provides their contact information for various mundane problems, such as broken furniture, bathroom problems, and Honor Code intricacies. Can I paint the walls of my dorm room or common room? No. Painting is prohibited on any dorm wall or ceiling in any room or hallway. See the section on painting in the Housing section on page [93] for more information. What does the Alcohol Policy allow me to do? Whether or not one drinks while at Haverford is a choice all students must face. The goal of the alcohol policy is to maintain a social atmosphere free of coercion or peer pressure that is acceptable to all students. Basically the alcohol policy encourages ‘Fords to be safe. The policy informs students that the legal drinking age in the state of Pennsylvania is 21 years of age. Haverford does not condone or encourage underage drinking. Students under 21 who choose to drink should be aware that they will be held accountable for their actions under the law and that the College cannot and will not protect them if cited for underage drinking by the authorities. Students should know that there are residents in the area and noise does travel easily from party locations and must be kept to a minimum, especially if students are outside. Drinking in public areas, such as Founders Hall, Marshall Auditorium, Magill Library, any academic building, or the dining center, is in strict violation of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) If I have a problem with furniture, electricity, or plumbing in my dorm, who do I call? This rule applies to athletes, people involved in the customs program, early return students, first years, and regular return students. Special permission is usually only given to people who have to travel a long distance to Haverford or cannot return on the normal scheduled date. athletic fields, open areas, or anywhere that is considered outside that is not a back porch is also in violation of the Alcohol Policy. Anyone with a card can enter any building that has 141 a OneCard scanner. Just hold the card about six inches away from the scanner and the door will open. It also functions as a library card and as a meal card. It is important to remember that with the OneCard, anyone with a card can enter any dorm building, which means that there is no reason to prop doors (all outer doors also have a door prop alarm that is very annoying). After certain hours however you are only able to get into your specific dormitory (the hours are later on the weekends).
