Answers to Frequently Asked Questions at the GVSU Athletic and Recreation Facilities
1. How do I request space reservations for GVSU Athletic and Recreation Facilities?
- Answer: Please request the space through our usual channel - the online request form. Go to our web-site at www.gvsu.edu/fieldhouse. Once there, click on “facility rentals” under the “popular pages” section. Please do NOT attempt to submit space requests via e-mail, the phone, in person, or voicemail. Please allow 3 weeks for a response to your request as most requests require coordination with facility management and are not left up to individual schedulers.
2. How do I reserve equipment for use at the GVSU Athletic and Recreation Facilities?
- Answer: There are three ways to reserve equipment: 1) stop by the Rec Center equipment office during office hours 2) fill out a form at the GVSU Recreation Center front desk or 3) e-mail your request to fhsa@gvsu.edu. Please submit your request at least one week prior to the date that you need your equipment.
3. How do I request student employment at the GVSU Fieldhouse and Recreation Center or Laker Turf Building?
- Answer: Go to www.gvsu.edu/fieldhouse and click on “employment”’ under the “popular pages” section. Although we receive a large number of applications, you may apply often as we have occasional openings.
4. Do I have to pay to use the GVSU Fieldhouse or Recreation Center?
- Answer: GVSU Students, Faculty, Staff, and members do not pay to use the Fieldhouse or Recreation Center. However, there are additional charges for using the Racquetball Courts and the Climbing Center. In addition, there are charges for some equipment rentals. Non members pay to use the Fieldhouse and Recreation Center – inquire at the Rec Center front desk for rates or go to www.gvsu.edu/fieldhouse and look at memberships for pricing (daily rates are available).
5. How do I obtain a GVSU Fieldhouse and Recreation Center Membership?
- Answer: Fieldhouse memberships can be obtained through our web-site at www.gvsu.edu/fieldhouse or a membership application form may be picked up at the Recreation Center front desk. Please allow one week for processing.
6. How much does a GVSU Fieldhouse and Recreation Center Membership cost?
- Answer: There are several types of memberships: GVSU Student, Faculty/Staff: Upon presentation of validated student identification card or staff card, admittance is at no charge.

GVSU Student spouse/*dependents: If the student is currently enrolled, the spouse/dependent card is issued (to those 2 years and older). Spouses and *dependent children rates are $15 per person per semester. GVSU Faculty/Staff Spouse/family and *dependents: One adults’ and faculty/staffs’ *dependents living in the same household. Cards will be issued per semester for free. GVSU Graduate/Alumni: GVSU graduates and alumni, as confirmed by Records office transcripts, are eligible. Upon request, membership cards are available for spouse and *dependents (to those 2 years and older).This is $60 per six months or $100 per year for individual value, or $100 per six months or $175 per year for family value. GVSU Uniformed Services (police, fire, and military) Members – See special membership application for rates. GVSU Individual Community Member: Several options are available to those community members not meeting any of the above criteria. Monthly, quarterly, and annual memberships options are available. Monthly: $80 Quarterly: $275 Annual: $400 Inclusive of spouse/*dependents: Inclusive of spouse/*dependents: Inclusive of spouse/*dependents: $150 $425 $725
*Eligible dependents include a spouse and unmarried child who is: 1. Less than age nineteen (19); i.e. 18 years or younger, OR 2. Age 19 – 26 and currently a full-time student in an accredited school (or if the students is enrolled in two or more accredited schools with the class load equivalency of a full-time student). Proof of dependency is required for dependent children over the age of 19. -Proof of dependency must be proved before a membership application can be completed. To prove dependency you can provide a copy of your student’s current college schedule.
7. How do I rent a FH/Recreation Center locker and what is the cost?
- Answer: Locker rental online forms can be obtained through our web-site at www.gvsu.edu/fieldhouse or an application form may be picked up at the Recreation Center front desk. Faculty/staff: Currently available to requesting faculty/staff on an "as available" basis at no charge. Lockers are assigned on a first come/first serve basis at present. Fieldhouse Customer Locker Rental Agreement Forms are available at the GVSU Recreation Center front desk. Assignments are e-mailed to the faculty/staff. Students and Members: Available upon the processing of the Fieldhouse Customer Locker Rental Agreement and payment to the GVSU Recreation Center. Locker assignments are typically available 2-5 business days after request is made. Lockers are available per semester at variable prices depending upon the size of locker requested. Lockers prices range from $5 to $20 per semester.
