Martin Hydroelectric Project, FERC No. 349 Pre-Application Document Information Questionnaire for FERC Relicensing

Alabama Power Company (APC) is preparing to begin the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) relicensing of the Martin Hydroelectric Project (FERC Project No. 349). The 182 Mw Martin Project consists of a dam, spillway, powerhouse and 40,000 acre reservoir known as “Lake Martin”. Lake Martin is located on the Tallapoosa River, near Dadeville, Alabama. The Project’s existing license was issued by the FERC in May 1978 and expires on June 8, 2013. APC must file a license application with the FERC two years prior to the expiration date, on or before June 8, 2011. In preparing to relicense the Project, APC is required to prepare and distribute a PreApplication Document (PAD) to provide FERC, agencies, and stakeholders with available information pertaining to the Project. This information will be used to identify issues and information needs regarding the relicensing of the Project, and to develop preliminary study plans where information gaps may exist. Information gathered for the PAD will be used throughout the relicensing process to prepare documents analyzing Project effects. This questionnaire will help APC identify sources of existing, relevant, and reasonably available information. Your answers to the following questions will provide APC with valuable information in developing a comprehensive PAD. Please complete this electronic copy by filling in the shaded areas of each question. For the open ended questions (e.g., 2 b), type your text in the shaded areas and hit “enter” and you will have plenty of room to record your responses. Email your response to JFCREW@southernco.com. Alternatively, you can print and complete this questionnaire and FAX to Jim Crew at 205-257-1596. As needed, follow-up contacts will be made by APC. Should you have any questions, please contact Jim Crew at 205-257-4265 or JFCREW@southernco.com.
