Vermont Art Educator of the Year Award Nominations
Goals in Conferring Art Educator of the Year Award:
To show appreciation to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to art education. Increase public awareness of the importance of quality art education for all Vermont students. The VATA annual Art Educator of the Year Award honors outstanding art teachers whose exemplary instruction and professionalism has made a significant positive contribution to student learning in art and to art education within their schools, community and the state.

Criteria:
Candidates must: Hold current VT art education certification Be a member of the Vermont Art Teachers Association and the National Art Education Association. Demonstrate outstanding commitment, professionalism and dedicated service in arts education, acting as an inspiration to students, teachers and the community. Implement State and National Visual Arts Standards while meeting the needs and interests of students in a creative manner. **Current executive board members of VATA are excluded from receiving the award.

Process
Nominations must be received no later than September 15th. Nominations will be reviewed by the executive board of VATA. Final selection will be announced by September 30th.

Upcoming Events:
 Nominations for VT Art Educator of the Year are due by September 15th.  Join us at our next meeting: September 17th, 4:30pm at the VT NEA Office - 10 Wheelock St., Montpelier.  Vermont Art Teachers Association Fall Conference: “Cut, Fold, Crimp & Score: Paper Play!” will be held on Thursday, October 18th at Champlain Elementary School in Burlington. Registration deadline is Monday, October 1st. All workshops are first come, first serve.

What is VATA?
The Vermont Art Teachers Association (VATA) is a statewide organization whose mission is to support, promote and advocate for the profession and teaching of the visual arts. Anyone engaged in art education or who is interested in the benefits of art education for students is welcome to become a member. Art Education Course to be Offered at UVM by Two VATA Members
Two VATA members, Barb Crandall and Dee Christie, will be offering an art education course during the 2007 fall semester at the University of Vermont in Burlington. This methods course will supply information about techniques and materials pertaining to artmaking at all developmental levels. Those taking the course will learn about integrating the arts with other core classes, delivery techniques, teaching in a classroom and alternative settings and will experiment with materials. This class is appropriate for pre-service art educators, classroom teachers and art teachers looking for fresh ideas.
