Some Interesting Facts About Casey Bowen
1. Where were you born and/or where did you grow up? I was born in Moses Lake, Washington
and grew up about 10 miles away in small farming community called Warden.
2. Where else have you lived? Which place is/was your favorite and why? I lived in Warden,
Washington through the end of my junior year of high school, at which time my family moved to
Anderson, California—a bedroom community to Redding, California. I lived in northeastern
Mexico, from Reynosa to Tampico as a missionary for two years. I lived in Provo, Utah for
seven years, completing my bachelors degree; then moved to Anchorage, and out to the Mat-
Su Valley after three years. I have been here in Wasilla since 1985.
3. Which university/colleges did you graduate from and what did you study? I have a Bachelors
degree in Business Finance from Brigham Young University. I have a second Bachelors of Ele-
mentary Education and a Masters of Public School Administration, both from the University of
Alaska, Anchorage.
4. How long have you been teaching? What grades/subjects have you taught? Have you taught
anywhere besides the Mat-Su School District? Where? I have been teaching since 1990 in the
Mat-Su School District. I have taught at Big Lake, Cottonwood, Snowshoe, Larson, and now at
Fronteras. I have taught before school classes in Spanish at Colony and Teeland Middle
Schools, and I have done Spanish Club at Cottonwood, Snowshoe and Larson. I have taught
all core subjects and foreign language. I am beginning my 19th year of teaching. I have taught
grades 3-8, and I will be teaching a 2-3 this year.
5. What is your favorite subject to teach? My favorite subject to teach is Spanish; followed by
Math and Social Studies.
6. Where do you like to go on vacation? Where would you go and what would you do if you could
take your dream vacation? Mexico is a favorite location for our vacations, but we have also
been checking out Puerto Rico and Spain. My dream vacation would be touring all of the
Spanish speaking countries in the world. My wife and I like to visit with the local people, so we
would be taking public transportation or walk wherever we go in order to visit markets and
neighborhoods.
7. What is your favorite color? My favorite color is light blue.
8. What is your favorite plant, flower or tree? What is your favorite animal? Gardenias give off the
best scent, but yellow roses are my favorite flowers. I really enjoy most mammals. I had a col-
lie as I grew up; so dogs are part of my life. My grandparents lived near us as I grew up, and
they had a dozen cats that lived down near the hay stacks. I grew up taking care of all of the
farm animals.
9. What are your favorite foods? Your favorite decadent treat? I like Mexican food and steaks
and lots of salads with tomatoes and avocados. Mint brownies or fruit pie a la mode would be
samples of decadent desserts.

10. What are your favorite indoor and outdoor hobbies/activities? Indoor activities would include
reading, studying, and playing games with the grandkids. Outdoor activities would be travel-
ing, fishing, and yard work.
11. What is your preferred reading material? (non-fiction, fiction, magazines, newspaper, profes-
sional books, etc) Fiction, such as Aragon, are a great escape from reality, allowing us to let
imagination reign. I like non-fiction in the form of history, religion, and education.
12. Do you have a favorite author? A favorite book? My favorite book is Peter the Great.
13. What is your favorite type of music? Rock and Roll is my favorite, but I have developed a tol-
erance for most music. It helps if it can be used for dancing.
14. What special skills and talents do you have? I enjoy dancing. My wife and I have taught
dance for many years to hundreds of people. Spanish is a passion for me, and I try to read,
listen, and speak it whenever I can.
15. Are you married? Do you have any children? (# of boys and # of girls)? I am married to
Wendy Goff Bowen. We will have been married 33 years this August. We have five sons. All
have attended Mat-Valley schools.
16. Do you have any pets? If so, what are they and what are their names? We have a cat,
named Pancho. Our dog recently died after fourteen years. We have "grand-puppies." They
are Chihuahuas that belong to our son, Doug. The male is named Rico, and the female is
named Chica.
17. Tell us something that most people don’t know about you. I could be a professional stu-
dent. I love learning!
