CEO message - Nothing fails like success
I had a great conversation with our Chairman, Samir Fancy, recently in which he was questioning me on
the company’s ability to change and adapt to the significant challenges arising from the global financial and
economic crisis. While the challenges are serious, the conversation was optimistic. Why? - Because we
believe in the people and leadership skills at every level of the organization that have demonstrated
resilience to challenge throughout the company’s history. But a history of success is no cause for
complacency and I felt it would be worth sharing the stimulus of Samir’s question with colleagues through-
out the group - hence this note. I was reminded of a affect of those changes, including the robust
famous quote from the renowned historian Arnold markets in which we operate. Companies with

Topaz bags double honors at regional Seatrade Awards
Congratulations to Topaz Energy and Marine for winning two Seatrade
Middle East and Indian Subcontinent Awards this year. During the grand

executives, Fazel A. Fazelbhoy, CEO of Topaz Energy and Marine was
awarded for the ‘Personality of the Year’, while Topaz’s Marine MENA fleet

presented to Fazelbhoy was one of three special honors on the night, while
the ‘Workboats’ award was given on account of the MENA fleet’s cutting-

Topaz Sponsors and Exhibits at MEWE
Topaz was an exhibitor as well as
one of the sponsors for the Middle
East Workboats Exhibition, which
ran from 5 – 7 October at the Abu
Dhabi National Exhibition Centre,
and included over 170 exhibitors. As
it was a workboat show, the Topaz
delegates at the stand primarily
represented the Topaz Marine
division, and Topaz Ship Building
and Topaz Marine Repair units.
Topaz had a great space selected
which ensured good visibility and
plenty of traffic around the stand.
The organizers noted a 70%
increase in the number of exhibitors
which was seen as a powerful sign
of the continuing growth in the
offshore marine support sector in
