SIGN PERMIT 1. WHAT IS A SIGN PERMIT? CLEAR FORM GO TO APPLICATION A Sign Permit is an administratively issued permit allowing the placement of signs under specific conditions and subject to certain regulations. 2. WHICH ZONING DISTRICTS REQUIRE A SIGN PERMIT? Real estate development signs, permanent or temporary, and other temporary development signs, are allowable in all residential districts subject to issuance of a Sign Permit. On-site business ground signs, portable signs and projecting signs are allowable in all commercial and industrial districts subject to issuance of a Sign Permit. 3. HOW DO I KNOW WHICH ZONING DISTRICT I AM IN? The Siskiyou County Planning Department in the Courthouse Annex will provide you with zoning information. It is helpful to have your Assessor's parcel number which you can obtain from the Assessor's office. 4. HOW DO I OBTAIN A SIGN PERMIT? To begin the process of obtaining a sign permit, a completed application form must be submitted to the Planning Department. Sign permit applications are available in the Planning Department. The application can be filled out by the applicant; however, the property owner must sign the application and have it notarized. The application is reviewed by the Planning Department. 5. WHAT KIND OF INFORMATION MUST I PROVIDE ON THE APPLICATION FORMS? Basic information is requested such as name, address, location and Assessor's parcel number of property where sign will be placed, square footage of sign, etc. You are also asked to describe your proposed sign, provide photographs of the sign and property, a location sketch and a plot plan of the property where the sign will be placed. 6. HOW LONG WILL THIS TAKE? Sign permits can normally be issued within ten (10) working days, upon receipt of a complete application. 7. WHO REVIEWS AND WHO APPROVES THIS APPLICATION? The Planning Department reviews the application for completeness and approves the permit once it has been determined that all requirements have been met. 9. HOW MUCH DOES THIS COST? A Sign Permit is subject to the following processing fees: Planning Department $50.00 REVISED: January 9, 2004 SIGN PERMIT APPLICATION This application may be prepared by the applicant. IMPORTANT NOTICE TO ALL APPLICANTS FOR A SIGN PERMIT In order to assure the most rapid processing of your application, we ask your cooperation in the following matters: 1. In order to be processed, your application must be complete. Incomplete applications will not be accepted. If you are unable to provide requested information, please talk to a planner. You must supply accurate plans drawn to scale showing specific design, appearance and location of the proposed sign(s) on the property (see sample map). Show all existing uses (drawn to scale), and all other relevant information. YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR PROVIDING SUFFICIENT INFORMATION TO THE COUNTY TO ALLOW PROPER REVIEW OF YOUR APPLICATION. IF YOU ARE UNABLE OR UNWILLING TO SUPPLY ADEQUATE INFORMATION YOUR APPLICATION WILL, OF NECESSITY, BE DENIED. All information required in the attached application form must be TYPED OR PRINTED NEATLY in black ink. Acceptance of your application by the Planning Department does not guarantee your application will be approved. USUAL CONDITIONS OF APPROVAL: 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. 8. 9. The Use shall be in accordance with the approved plot plan. All County road and yard setbacks must be met. The sign may be illuminated, but non-animated and non-flashing. Ground signs shall be limited to one sign for the business premise which advertises the business name, services offered and/or products sold on the premises. The height of the sign shall not exceed 30 feet. The sign shall not exceed 150 square feet in display area on any one side and the total display area of all sides shall not exceed 300 square feet. The sign shall be designed by a California Licensed Engineer or Architect. The sign shall be constructed in accordance with Uniform Sign Code standards. A building permit is required prior to the commencement of any work. Notation: This permit is automatically terminated and all rights thereunder rescinded when not used for the above purpose within two years of issuance or, if once established, not used for one year. One, two year time extension may be granted subject to county review and approval (Ord. 90-22). SIGNATURE REQUIREMENTS I agree to comply with all of the provisions listed above.
