Articles can now be read by either scrolling down the page or by clicking the titles below: 051/08 052/08 053/08 054/08 055/08 056/08 Refresh of Assessment and Evaluation Manuals for Accredited Offending Behaviour Programmes Merged Prison Name Announced National Audit Office (NAO) Reports Alcohol Best Practice – Projects Outputs 2008 NAPO Directory – Incorrect Numbers Issued Recently

051/08 REFRESH OF ASSESSMENT AND EVALUATION MANUALS FOR ACCREDITED OFFENDING BEHAVIOUR PROGRAMMES
The following assessment and evaluation manuals for accredited offending behaviour programmes have been refreshed and placed on Epic: • • • • • • Substance Misuse Programmes (ASRO, OSAP and PRISM) General Offending Behaviour Programmes (Think First, ETS, One to One) CALM ART Womens’ Crime Acquisitive Programme Drink Impaired Drivers Programme

The refresh does not make significant changes to the data collected however they do provide an up to date format for each manual. The refresh was borne out of the need to have strategic and consistent approach to evaluating programmes in NPS. It also provided an opportunity to update information, policy and guidance in each manual and reflect reductions of evaluation measures for some programmes. To note, the Drink Impaired Drivers programme manual has been amended to reflect the reduction in evaluation measures. The Substance Misuse programmes manual has been amended to reflect a forthcoming reduction in evaluation measures which will be announced in a Probation Circular to be disseminated in the next month. 054/08 ALCOHOL BEST PRACTICE – PROJECTS OUTPUTS 2008
The Interventions & Substance Abuse Unit (ISAU) held a conference on 11th October 2007 to disseminate key learning points from the projects funded under PC31/2006 to help to identify, develop and spread best practice relating to the aims and objectives of the National Probation Service alcohol strategy, Working with Alcohol Misusing Offenders. The main outputs from the first stage of these projects e.g. reports, training materials, practice manuals, to inform the wider development of alcohol provision across NPS are now available for use by other areas. A summary of each project, with relevant contact details should you require further information, is also included for ease of reference. NOMS ISAU made additional funding available to 6 of the 7 projects for follow-up work in 2007-08. Outputs from this second stage will be published as soon as these are available. Further funding may be available for new project work in 2008/9.
