							AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS GENERAL GUIDELINES Background Australia Day Awards are presented annually to citizens/groups who have made noteworthy contributions to their local community. The Awards are provided by the Australia Day Committee and administered by Local Government Authorities on behalf of the Council. Guidelines 1. The Local Government Authority should invite nominations for the Awards through the local media. In the absence of any nominations from members of the public, the Selection Panel should make its own nominations based on local knowledge and experience. 2. Individuals and organizations may submit nominations. 3. The closing date for nominations should be determined by the Local Government Authority. 4. The Selection Panel should consist of representatives of the Local Government Authority. 5. The Awards should be presented during the Australia Day Celebrations on 26th January 2007. 6. Media publicity associated with the Awards should acknowledge the role of the Australia Day Council. 7. To assist the Authority publicise Australia Day celebrations and enhance public recognition of the awardees, the following information to the Australia Day Council by 8th December 2006 would be appreciated:Details of all functions to be held on/for Australia Day. Details of presentation function for Australia Day Citizen, Young Citizen, Community Event of the Year, Year of the Volunteer Award and Cultural Awards, ie. Place, Date, Time, Contact Name and Phone Number.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS SELECTION CRITERIA GUIDELINES
1. Persons who have made a noteworthy contribution during the current year and/or given outstanding service to the local community over a number of years. • Australia Day Citizen Award To be eligible, the person must be 27 years or older on 26th January 2007. • Australia Day Young Citizen Award To be eligible the person must not be more than 27 years of age on 26th January 2007. 2. • Community Event of the Year Award Presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the year. 3. Persons who have a noteworthy record of achievement in Sport, or have made a significant contribution to Sports as a Coach, Official or Administrator. • Australia Day Sports Award To be eligible, the person must be 18 years or older on 26th January 2007. • Australia Day Junior Sports Award To be eligible, the person must be not more than 18 years of age on 26th January 2007. • Australia Day Sports Administrator Award To be eligible, the person must be a duly appointed Coach, Official or Administrator. 4. Persons who have made a noteworthy contribution to the cultural life of the local community or an outstanding achievement in cultural activity(ies). • Australia Day Cultural Award To be eligible, the person must be 18 years or older on 26th January 2007. • Australia Day Junior Cultural Award To be eligible, the person must not be more than 18 years of age on 26th January 2007. 5. Persons who have actively given support to the community of Nebo and District. • Nebo Shire Council Special Acknowledgement Awards
