The HAPPINESS Principle ! “Feeling cheesed off , down in the dumps,… or just fed up ?” How much more effective and successful would you be if you could choose how happy you were at any given moment ? Within seconds you could go from being stressed, sad or angry, to being calm, happy and positive, and we can show you how. One of the key traits of top achievers is that they do not go after goals to make them happy. Highly effective people are happy and positive people who then, and ONLY THEN, go after their goals. There is a Chinese proverb that reads “happiness is a way of travel and not a destination” which means that if you live your life in search of happiness, you will never find it, for happiness comes from within. Be happy first, and your life improves from that moment onwards. A Buddhist proverb reads “Where ever you go – there you are” which means that if you are negative, miserable and unhappy and go after a goal, even if you do achieve the goal, you will still be the same miserable, negative and unhappy person that you were before. Happiness comes when you choose to be happy right NOW ! The following tips are all taken from interviews with top achievers; Contd; 1 – Happiness is a way of travel, and not a destination. 2 – Where ever you go – There you are. So get happy NOW ! 3 – Ask quality questions – “How can I ?”, “What do I need to do ?” “Who shall I meet ?” etc 4 – Catch yourself feeling down and take immediate action to change state – YES !!!! 5 – Build FUN into your work and life schedule. 6 – Remember a time when you felt FANTASTIC – and anchor it. 7 – BLOCK OUT energy vampires – are you mixing with positive people ? 8 – Find things that make you laugh – it is the body’s own happy drug. 9 – Ask yourself “Why would I want to be unhappy” – CHOOSE HAPPINESS ! 10 – Do not go after your goal to find happiness – be happy, then go after your goals ! Many top achievers make a point of laughing out loud, or finding something each and every day to make them stay happy. What will you do ? Why not see if you can learn anything from this story ?; When I interviewed the chief executive of the Midlands largest law firm he shared with me how he manages to stay so happy and positive in such a challenging career. “What I do whenever things begin to get on top of me, is this – I go into the toilet and lock the door. I then sit down and close my eyes taking long deep calming breaths.” He went on to say that “then what I do is remember a time way back in 1996 when I was at an England Vs Scotland football match when I saw one of the best goals ever scored.” His eyes lit up as he explained “I remember very clearly the noise of the crowd, the smell of the air and the sights in front of my eyes as this magical goal was scored and 75000 fans erupted into ecstasy. I remember what I saw, what I heard and how I felt in order re-live that moment and it makes the hair on my neck stand on end with excitement.” I do this and it makes me feel just great.
