3-Year Salary Calculator Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) Q) A) Do you employ Education Support Staff on the NJC pay Scale? If your spreadsheet on the Home page is version 08.XX.4 then you do not need to take any remedial action. If you are using version 08.XX.3 then you will need to contact Neil Cox at the CFE Finance Statutory Team on 01622 605181 and he will advise accordingly. I wish to pay someone (non-teaching) an allowance only, how do I do this? There are two ways to achieve this and both use the Half Pay-Point scale on the Non-Teaching Pay Scales sheet. The first way would be to allocate the allowance amount to a pay-point e.g.: H1. This would then allocate the amount accordingly. The second way would be to allocate one of the half pay-points e.g.: H1 as the default amount for this scale is zero. The allowance amount can then be allocated against the Other Allowance column – If it is Education Support Staff, this amount should be entered as 50% of the normal amount. The following question is a typical example that may be asked. Q) I have a Teaching Assistant receiving an Other Allowance of £334.30 per year which appears on the payroll report under the Other Allowance column as £27.86 each month. When I enter £334.30 into this column, the spreadsheet calculates this allowance as £37.25 per month. (The TA works 30 hours per week and 301 days per year giving a Full Time Equivalent of 0.6686). Why is there a difference? The Other Allowance amount that the TA is paid would normally be entered as the full annual amount rather than the pro-rata amount. (In this example, the full annual amount is £500 per year). Due to an error on the pages for Education Support Staff, the amount that needs to be entered in the Other Allowance column should be half of the full annual amount, £250. This will then ensure that the TA is paid £27.86 per month. I have a female Teacher who will be 60/male teacher who will be 65 years of age between September and March of the current year and the spreadsheet will not allow me to enter ‘Y’. Please contact Neil Cox at the CFE Finance Statutory Team on 01622 605181 and he will advise accordingly. Q) A) A) Q) A)
