The Essentials of Respect
AKA: Tips for Being the Best Person YOU can be!
Rules for the Classroom:
When a classmate does something well, congratulate her with applause. During discussions, respect other students’ comments, opinions, and ideas. When possible,
make statements like, “I agree with John, and I also feel that…” or I disagree with Sara. She made a good point, but I feel that…” or “I think Victor made an excellent observation, and it made me realize…” While you are with a resources teacher or with a substitute teacher, you will obey the same rules that you follow when I am with you. We will be on task by not speaking unless: You raise your hand, and I call on you. I ask you a question and you are responding. It is recess or lunch. I instruct you otherwise (like with group work).
Tips to Do Your Best in Class:
When working as a class, always know where the class is in a book or what problem we
are working on. Answer all written questions with complete sentences. Be as organized as possible.
Lend a Helping Hand:
If someone drops something, pick it up and hand it back to them. Even if they are closer
to the object, it is only polite to make the gesture of bending down to retrieve the item. If you approach a door and someone is following you, hold the door. If someone bumps into you, even if it was not your fault, say “Excuse me.”
All about Homework There will be no moaning or complaining when any work is assigned. Homework will be turned in everyday by every student with no exception.
Rules for School:
When in like, walk in single file, face forward at all times, and do not talk. Be in line order at all times, while walking in line. During emergency drill, there is absolutely no talking so teachers can make sure all
students are safe and sound. Learn the names of teacher and other who work in our school. Greet them by name when you see them. When we have a visitor, greet him with a handshake and warm welcome. If anyone at school is bullying or making you feel uncomfortable, let your teacher know.
Show Respect When Talking to Others:
When responding to any adult, you must answer by saying “Yes ma’am” or “No sir.” Just
nodding your head or saying any other form of yes or no is not acceptable. Make eye contact. When someone is speaking, keep your eyes on him or her at all times. If someone makes a comment, turn and face that person. Do not smack you lips, tsk, roll your eyes, or show disrespect with gestures.
Be Neat and Clean in All You Do:
When you cough or sneeze or burp, it is appropriate to turn your head away from others
and cover your mouth with the full part of your hand. Using a fist is not acceptable. Afterward, you should say, “Excuse me.” Flush the toilet and wash your hands after using the rest room. After we eat, we will clean up after ourselves. This includes cleaning off the tables and making sure we haven’t left any trash on the floor or around the eating area. It is important to be responsible for your trash no matter where you are and to be sure not to litter.

When You Have Done Something You Are Proud of:
Do not brag when you win or do well. Do no show anger if you lose. Do not expect or ask for a reward.
