PLEASE READ: IMPORTANT INFORMATION ABOUT CALIFORNIA’S HIV DATA California recently passed Senate Bill 699 (Soto), which requires California health care providers and laboratories to report cases of HIV infection by name to local health departments, and local health departments to report this information to the California Department of Health Services (CDHS). The new reporting requirements are consistent with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommendations that all states and territories report HIV infection using a confidential name-based system. Effective April, 2006, CDHS, Office of AIDS (OA) will no longer be providing updated statistical information on HIV cases reported before the implementation of the new reporting law. The HIV statistics and monthly reports published by OA on this Web site will be based on HIV cases reported by name beginning April, 2006. Cumulative HIV case counts will reflect the number of unduplicated HIV cases reported by name to OA. For more information please contact Laura E. Lund, Chief, HIV/AIDS Case Registry, OA at (916) 449-5866 or llund@dhs.ca.gov.
