Frequently Asked Questions

What is full-text eContent?

Full-text eContent is an electronic version of a print book that has been enhanced with features such as

links from the Table of Contents, an embedded dictionary, full-text searching, and the ability to mark titles or

pages and make notes.

Do I need any special software or hardware to view eBooks?

No. To use the netLibrary website and online reader, you only need a web browser. If additional software

is required to view a title, a link to the software is provided on the Details page.

How many eBooks can I view simultaneously?

You can have up to 4 eBooks open in the online reader at any one time.

What is the difference between viewing and checking titles?

Viewing lets you access a title in 15 minute increments. As long as you are active in the eBook (turning

pages, doing full-text searches, etc) you continue to have access to the title. When you become inactive,

the eBook is returned for someone else to use. Checking out a title to your account gives you exclusive

access to a title for the entire checkout period.

How many eBooks can I check out simultaneously?

You can check out up to 5 titles simultaneously. You will not be able to check out additional titles until a title

is checked back in (either manually or when the loan period expires).

What is the checkout period for eBooks?

The checkout period for Shorelink Library Network eBooks is 3 days. When the checkout period expires,

the title is automatically returned and you no longer have access to it.

Do I need to return eBooks when the checkout period expires?

No. The eBook is automatically returned after the checkout period.

What happens if an eBook is not available?

When an eBook is in use, a message will be displayed. You are given the option to view the Table of

Contents for the title, and to be notified by email when the title becomes available. This service is free of

charge.

Can I access the Library’s collection of eBooks from home?

Yes. For more information contact your Shorelink Library or visit the Shorelink website.

When can I access eBooks?

eBooks can be accessed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
