Child care help
Council News
Are you looking for child care? Council is piloting the use of a website which can help you access vacancies in long-day-care child care in the Bayside area. Go to www.childcarenow.com.au and type in the postcode of the area in Bayside you would like to access child care in. The listing will identify vacancies in centres registered with this program and you can then telephone the centre and make arrangements to visit and seek further information. More information about this project may be obtained by contacting Maggie Moulds on (03) 9599 4661.
Resident Transport Service
Bayside City Council is establishing a Resident Transport Service to assist eligible, isolated older residents, and residents with disabilities, to travel to and from medical appointments when mainstream transport is not suitable. This service will be available from July 2007 and will have a small fee charged per kilometre. If you think we may be able to assist you with transport, please contact Council's Intake and Information Officer on (03) 9599 4381. Volunteers are also needed for the Resident Transport Service. If you have a current Victorian drivers licence, a safe and reliable vehicle and are willing to undergo a police check, please contact the Resident Transport Project Officer on (03) 9599 4463.
National Tree Day
Why not volunteer some time this year to plant the seeds for a green Bayside future? The annual National Tree Day planting will be held in Bayside on Sunday 29 July between 10am and 12noon, at a site on the Sandringham foreshore that was burnt by wildfire earlier in the year. All plants will be watered on the day using recycled water from Elsternwick Lake. Parking is available at Sandringham foreshore car park B6 (Melway 76 F7) and arrows will direct volunteers to the planting site. For more information, or to volunteer to help with the National Tree Day planting, please contact Jo Hurse at Citywide Parkcare on (03) 9583 6700.
Community Nursery open day
Celebrate National Tree Day by visiting the Bayside Community Nursery open day and play your part to improve the environment. The Nursery will be open from 9am until 2pm on Saturday 28 July and will be offering a 20 per cent discount on all plants. For more information on the nursery open day, please contact Carmen or Erika at the nursery on (03) 9583 8408.
Trees and powerlines
Council has recently received reports that private contractors are requesting removal and/or pruning of trees adjacent to power cables on private property. Council does not endorse any private contractors for tree pruning and/or removal on private property. Any resident being approached by persons purporting to be Council contractors in such circumstances should take down all possible details including any vehicle registration number and report it to Council's Investigations Arborists on (03) 9599 4444.
