Report on the recent survey on the Matrimandir Management: 200 people have responded to the survey about the Management of the Matrimandir. 146 people answered the questionnaire by email. 50 people answered the hard copy (44 in English, 3 in French, 3 in Tamil). 4 people sent us letters or emails about the questionnaire, but did not answer the questions. The overwhelming majority (82-88%) agreed with the questions asked. The comments (which are available on the AVNet) indicate that there is a widespread feeling that the New Team and the Architect must be accountable to the Residents’ Assembly. (1. A new site management be constituted for Matrimandir composed of competent people who are accountable to the community and are willing to collaborate with the Architect.) 176 people (88% of those who responded) said “I agree”, 14 people (7%) said “I do not agree” and 10 people (5%) did not reply to the question. (2. The new site management team be chosen in consultation with the Residents' Assembly at the earliest.) 169 people (84.5%) said “I agree”, 19 people (9.5%) said “I do not agree” and 12 people (5%) did not answer the question. (3. Those persons presently in charge of the finances and work-force be asked to step back from their positions until such time as a new atmosphere of harmony, collaboration and goodwill can be established at the site.) 164 people (82%) said “I agree”, 19 people (9.5%) said “I do not agree” and 17 people (8.5%) did not answer the question (4. Preliminary specific studies, research and experiments concerning the gardens and the lake be undertaken in collaboration with the Architect, consultants, and the Residents Assembly.) 175 people (87.5%) said “I agree”, 12 people (6%) said “I do not agree” and 13 people (6.5%) did not answer the question. 1

Auroville Exhibition in Berlin
September 15th – 28th, 2003 After a year of preparations, Auroville International (AVI) Germany, in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, will present Auroville in the exclusive and prominent exhibition area of the German Foreign Ministry in Berlin. The material of the UNESCO exhibition held in Paris earlier this year will be used for the occasion, and there will be accompanying cultural programmes held in the Sri Aurobindo Center Berlin, which is another project of AVI Germany. Reference will be made to the AdiShakti Theater Group, an Auroville-related dance theater which is in town presenting a contemporary theater piece 'Ganapati' during the same time. Moreover, a second exhibition is planned in Berlin for the end of October. This exhibition takes place not only in collaboration with the Indian Embassy, but also with the German United Nations office there. AVI Germany is happy to announce that the German ex-Ambassador to India and eminent scholars of Sri Aurobindo's Integral Yoga will be invited to speak on the Auroville project (flight tickets will be provided by the Indian Embassy). We hope and expect that these events will be helpful for Auroville and AVI, for instance in getting accreditation by UNDPI (United Nation's Information Department). More importantly, it may help - as per Mother´s wish - with involving governments in the realisation of Auroville resp. its International Zone (the German pavilion will be mentioned in the exhibitions). With love, Wolfgang for AVI Deutschland (email@example.com) 3

Until recently Irumbai Temple could be equated to a gracefully aging beauty. Her fascinating legend foretelling the arrival of Auroville two hundred years earlier and her ancient charm has captured the Aurovilians' attention. Many of us have enjoyed surreal evenings there, lit by oil lamps that harkened of a gentler time. Ironically our attention may have had undesirable consequences. Since approximately two years repairs have been done that mar that graceful aging. While we may question and grapple with our aesthetic abilities in building and managing modern temples, hopefully we can successfully recognize and preserve ancient beauty. Perhaps together, we can right a small wrong, and restore in a fitting way the beauty of this ancient landmark. An experienced artisan using the original methods of lime plaster has been located to repair the cupolas, and other repairs are planned in accordance with the local community which we hope will be inspired by the traditional craftsmanship. Money is needed, and an account has been opened. You can help by donating to P.T. Account Irumbai Temple # 0671 specifying “construction.” You can also help us by sending us any archival images or sketches that will help us in the restoration work and for the web site we hope to create to enhance fund raising efforts. For more information and details, please talk to Ajit, Ponnuswami, Marco or Renu, or visit AVNet.

Video at Center Guest-house
A series of Krishnamurti videos will be shown at Center Guest-house. Monday, 8th September, 8:00 p.m.: The future of humanity, 1st part Wednesday, 10th September, 8:00 p.m.: The future of humanity, 2nd part Friday, 12th September, 8:00 p.m.: The nature of the mind, 1st part This will be continued if there is enough interest.
In these dialogues he examines age-old questions with physicist David Bohm. Beginning with the question, What is the future of humanity? they point out that while modern technology is often blamed for having created immense havoc in the social structure, the root problem - destructive human tendencies - has existed for all of recorded time. Krishnamurti gives no answers but rather reveals how individuals can understand their own thinking about the fundamental questions of human existence. The dialogues exemplify the very essence of Krishnamurtis teaching - that truth can be discovered only through self-observation and the mirror of relationship. "The future of humanity suggests that we can certainly get beyond our destructive conditioning. It urges us to change our patterns of ego-centred activity, now, so that humanity will be diverted from its present malevolent course.

From House of Mother’s Agenda
(Regarding the School's pupils:) From every side they ask the question (they are all like that), "What IS the Truth? What do you mean when you speak of the Truth?" They want a mental definition of the Truth.... Truth cannot be expressed in the mind's terms. That's the point. And all the questions they ask are mental ones. Truth cannot be formulated, it cannot be defined, but it can be LIVED. And one who has completely dedicated himself to the Truth, who wants to live the Truth and serve the Truth, will know EVERY MINUTE what he has to do: it will be a sort of intuition or revelation (more often than not wordless, but sometimes also expressed in words), which will every minute let him know the truth of that minute. And that's what is so interesting.... They want to know "the Truth," but as something well defined, well sorted out, well established; and then you are nice and quiet, you no longer need to seek! You adopt it and say, "This is the Truth," and then it's rigidly set - that's what all religions did, they set up their truth as a dogma. But that's not the Truth anymore. Truth is a living, changing thing, which expresses itself every second and is ONE way of approaching the Supreme. Everyone has his own way of approaching the Supreme. There may be some who can approach Him from every side at the same time, but there are those who approach through Love, those who approach through Power, those who approach through Consciousness, and those who approach through Truth. And each of these aspects is as absolute, imperative and indefinable as the supreme Lord himself is. The supreme Lord is absolute, imperative and indefinable, ungraspable in his entirety, and his attributes have that same quality. Once he knows this, one who puts himself at the service of one of these aspects will know (it's translated in life, in Time, in the movement of time), he will know every moment what the Truth is - that's very interesting - or he will know every minute what Consciousness is, or he will know every minute what Power is, or he will know every minute what Love is. And it's a multiform Power, Love, Consciousness, Truth, which express themselves innumerably in the manifestation, just as the Lord expresses himself innumerably in the manifestation. (The Mother in Mother’s Agenda, December 24, 1966)
