What is Rheumatology?
A superspecialty of internal medicine that involves the non-surgical evaluation and treatment of the rheumatic diseases and conditions. Rheumatic diseases and conditions are characterized by symptoms involving the musculoskeletal system. Many of the rheumatic diseases and conditions feature immune system abnormalities. Therefore, rheumatology also involves the study of the immune system

History
• 1986: Rheumatology Out Patient Clinic was started under Department of Medicine. • Dec,2005: Was formally upgraded with a grant of Rs.75 millions from the state government • February 21,2006: the unit was converted in to a full fledged Department of Rheumatology.
• This is the only full Rheumatology Department in any state medical college of North India. • Headed by its founder Prof. S.K.Das.
