What is Faux Finishing?
“Faux” (pronounced fo) is the French word for “false”. The art of Faux Finishing began centuries ago when time, funds and materials were not readily available to embellish and decorate living and working surroundings. Artisans were called upon to create illusions that looked like fabric, wood, stone, and decorative molding. Over time, this art form was viewed to be so pleasing and convincing that it was used in grand palaces and cathedrals, as much for its beauty as for its novelty. The Faux Artists of today are inspired by the work of the past. Today’s Faux Finishers combine those same techniques with modern paints and materials, bringing that same beauty and novelty to the culture and architecture of the present day. What is created today will serve as inspiration for the future. ______________________________________________________________________________
