By Kate Riley, CEO Solutions Resource Company June 2008 Core Concepts: What is Respect? To relate or refer to Concern The state of being regarded with honor or esteem Willingness to show consideration or appreciation
What are examples of respect? Maintaining a clean home shows you and others that you value your environment Learning at school and elsewhere reflects on how you value independence and self reliance When you share your manpower and labor with others it shows you appreciate help When you ask communicate through asking clear questions it shows you are a person that wants to understand and be understood How you dress and what you do with your time reflect how you feel inside. If you do not care about how you dress or how your time is used that says to others that you do not care if anyone abuses your time or you
How does the value statement ‘we do not waste our time or money’ reflect respect? Who we allow into our home and how we treat others takes time and money. When we spend time to prepare our home for guests we show that we care about the guest and want to be sure the guest can relate to our attention to the comfort and care of their wellness. When we are not careful with our time in preparing our home, the guest will not be able to relax. If the situation was reversed, and we were the guest, we would be uncomfortable and not want to stay. If money is spent on items that are not used, that shows that we did not value the money as we used it on items that did not enhance our well being. That sends the message to ourselves and others that we do not value money and we should not be surprised if others do not trust us with their money or things, since we do not value our money and purchase things that are not valued either.
