Councilwoman Hahn Establishes $50,000 Reward for Information Regarding Murder of Anthony Ortega
Councilwoman Janice Hahn today established a $50,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or people responsible for last summer’s murder of Antonio Ortega Jr. On July 6, 2008, the 29-year-old Ortega was gunned down while he and his wife were visiting her family in the East Wilmington neighborhood of Los Angeles. Antonio got into his car after leaving his in-laws’ home that Sunday evening, and was killed by an unknown assailant who shot him multiple times while he sat innocently in the driver’s seat. Now, almost a year later, the investigation has reached an impasse due to a lack of witnesses. Harbor Division detectives believe that there are valuable witnesses in this case who have yet to come forward, and that a reward might move them to speak out. In response to this, Councilwoman Hahn introduced the motion today before City Council and Ortega’s widow, Yesenia Ortega. “We need to find the person that did this – for the sake of Tony’s family and for the sake of the Wilmington community,” said Councilwoman Hahn. “Someone out there saw or knows who did this and I hope that this reward will compel them to come forward.” ###
