By William Drapcho Self Employed? Got Insurance? If you are like most people that are self employed you need insurance. The number of people that are self employed and need insurance is far greater than the number of people who are self employed and have insurance because it can be very difficult to get insurance when you're self employed. Most people get insurance through their workplace so if you are on your own and self employed and need insurance you have to buy your own policy which can be so expensive that most self employed people can't afford to pay the premiums. If you're self employed and need insurance you've probably looked at all kinds of health care and health insurance options like discount card programs or ala carte coverage but sometimes even those options are too expensive for people that are self employed and need insurance. So what can you do if you are self employed and need insurance? One thing that you can do is join a group of other self employed people in your industry. Large groups of self employed people will sometimes form a loose union so that together they can negotiate a better price for health insurance. Often this can be a good way for those people that are self employed and need insurance to get it but sometimes if the people who in the group have serious medical conditions or pre-existing conditions the rates that are charged by a major health insurance carrier to cover the group are too high for some of the members. In that case or if you have no major health conditions or problems you might be able to save money by getting insurance from a company that specializes in helping the self employed who need insurance get coverage. Sometimes the rates that you will pay from these private companies are high but usually the rates are more affordable than you might think. If you are leaving your current job to become self employed see if your health care coverage will be extended for a period of time after you leave the company. Sometimes your health care coverage will remain valid for as long as six months after you leave the company which gives you some time to find a new health insurance company. If you leave the company on good terms to start your own business or become self employed the company that you work for might let you continue to stay on the company health insurance plan so if How Not To Get Screwed By Insurance! SAVE MONEY EVERY MONTH for the rest of your life on your insurance premiums! You're paying way too much! Page 1 Presented by Daniel Toriola you're leaving your current job and are friendly with the boss you should ask if you will be allowed to stay on the company health insurance since being self employed makes it difficult to get affordable insurance. Being self employed and needing insurance can be scary because you know that if something happens and you get sick or hurt you could rack up huge hospital bills so you should make finding insurance for the self employed a priority. The internet now allows individuals the chance to plug in a few personal details and obtain information on insurance for the self employed. Some questions to consider when choosing your coverage are the following: 1) Is it important that you keep your current Doctor? 2) Is it important that you have access to alternative care such acupuncture or massage therapy? 3) How high a deductible are you comfortable with? Insurance for the Self Employed tailored to your needs. Most people looking for insurance for the self employed are seeking modest insurance coverage, but they also want some of the basic essentials such as regular Doctor visits and prescription coverage. Keep in mind that your premium costs will vary depending on how high your deductible is and what kind of coverage you have. Generally the higher the deductible, the lower your monthly premiums. When choosing your coverage try to match low prices with quality coverage.
