KR Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarship KR SUSTAINABLE ENTERPRISE IDEAS SCHOLARSHIP REGULATIONS BACKGROUND The KR Leadership Scholarships were established in 1998 as a consequence of a generous gift by Dr Kevin Roberts. Kevin was, at the time, the Chief Executive Officer of Saatchi & Saatchi in New Zealand, and a Director of the New Zealand Rugby Football Union. In 2003 the KR Leadership Scholarships were re-focused to reflect Kevin’s commitment to sustainable enterprise. Currently Dr Roberts is the Worldwide Chief Executive Officer of ideas company Saatchi & Saatchi, with bases in both New York and New Zealand. He is also CEO in Residence at the Judge Business School at Cambridge University in the UK and Professor of Sustainable Enterprise at Waikato Management School. REGULATIONS 1. Kevin Roberts Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarships may be awarded each year. The scholarships are for secondary students who enrol in the Waikato Management School in the year following their final year at a New Zealand Secondary School. Each scholarship is worth $4,000. 2. The purpose of the Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarships is to encourage, promote and reward original and creative ideas from young people that will create a better, more sustainable future for New Zealand communities. The scholarships reflect the value Kevin Roberts places on generating and implementing new ideas to bring about a sustainable future for New Zealand. 3. To be awarded a Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarship, an applicant must demonstrate creativity by submitting an original idea for a project that will create a better, more sustainable future for their home town (or a community they know well), a description of how he or she would implement the idea, and a statement of the anticipated benefits to that community. Applications will be judged on: • The applicant’s understanding of sustainable enterprise; • The clarity of the idea(s) presented; • The quality and thoroughness of the presentation; • The applicant’s likely success at university. 4. To be eligible to submit an application applicants must: • Be enrolled for the NCEA Scholarship, Level 3 or Level 2 qualification or equivalent in his or her final year at a secondary school in the year prior to application, and; • Be enrolled as a full-time, full-year undergraduate student in the Waikato Management School in the year in which the scholarship is awarded, and; • Be a New Zealand citizen or New Zealand permanent resident. An applicant for a Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarship must apply on the formal application form provided, attach their Curriculum Vitae, two referees’ reports, proof of citizenship / permanent residency and comply with all other requirements in these regulations and the application form. 6. Up to three Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarships may be awarded annually on the recommendation of a selection panel consisting of Dr Kevin Roberts, the Dean of the University of Waikato Management School, the Chairperson of the Department of Strategy and Human Resource Management, the Executive Director Public Relations and Marketing, and the Waikato Management School representative on the University’s Scholarships Committee, or their nominees. 7. If in any year there is not, in the opinion of the Selection Panel, an application of sufficient merit no award shall be made. 8. Immediately following the closing date all applications will be forwarded to the Waikato Management School. 9. Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarships shall be paid in single lump sums to be presented at a ceremony to be held at a date to be advised annually. Successful candidates are required to attend the award ceremony, where possible. 10. The Sustainable Enterprise Ideas Scholarship may be held together with any bursary, prize or student allowance unless the conditions of the other award preclude this. 11. The offer of a Scholarship must be accepted by the date indicated in the letter of offer. If any candidate declines a Scholarship, or does not take it up, the Selection Panel may offer the Scholarship to another person. A Scholarship shall, unless otherwise agreed by the Dean of the Waikato Management School, be taken up in the year for which it is offered. 12. In applying for a Scholarship, applicants agree that the University may approach the Principal of their secondary school to seek verification of details set out in their applications. The Scholarship recipients also agree that they can be profiled in University promotions. 13.
