“For the Son of Man is going to come with His angels in the glory of His Father, and then He will repay each person according to what he has done.”
“WHAT TO DO IN A POOR ECONOMY” II Cor. 8 & 9 PART I “Eyes on Eternity – a Biblical Model for Money”. The church at Jerusalem experienced poverty. From its birth on Pentecost the Jerusalem church had to cope with extreme poverty. WHY? Possibility #1: The church consisted largely of __________________________. Possibility #2: The Jerusalem church was ______________________________. Possibility #3: The ___________________ economic conditions of the region. The Jerusalem church made a tremendous effort to meet the needs of its poor members (Acts 2:44-45). “WHAT TO DO IN A POOR ECONOMY” II Cor. 8 & 9 PART I “Eyes on Eternity – a Biblical Model for Money”. The church at Jerusalem experienced poverty. From its birth on Pentecost the Jerusalem church had to cope with extreme poverty. WHY? Possibility #1: The church consisted largely of PILGRIMS. Possibility #2: The Jerusalem church was PERSECUTED. Possibility #3: The POOR economic conditions of the region. The Jerusalem church made a tremendous effort to meet the needs of its poor members (Acts 2:44-45). Paul recognized their need and decided to take up a collection from churches in Asia Minor (Turkey) and Europe (Ro. 15:25-27). Giving is the behavior of devout Christians (II Cor. 8 & 9). How believers view MONEY is an effective barometer of their SPIRITUALITY. Unfortunately, materialism has penetrated our churches. As a result of SELF INDULGENCE and LACK of FAITH - believers have been HINDERED from experiencing the full blessing of GIVING. The early Christians had no such hindrances! 1) They FREELY gave to support those who were responsible for LEADING and SERVING the church. 2) They GENEROUSLY gave to meet the needs of the POOR.
