Tape: L –21 E. Rome Time: 1/ 25/ 04 11 a.m. Text: Exodus 20: 13 -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Inttroducttiion:: Murder is on the rise, and the reason is that man does not In roduc n regard that life is sacred and precious. When you cut on the news you hear about murder, and when you read the paper you hear about some one getting killed. A few weeks ago, a man killed four people in Calhoun including a tenmonth-old baby who he choked to death. This man had no regard for human life and that is the kind of days that we are living in. Let us hear what God says about murder and killing. I. The Definition Of Murder Exodus 20: 13 – Thou shalt not kill. It means to take the life of another person. Now, we are using the word murder because of it’s meaning. Murder applies to an unlawful and malicious or premeditated killing. Who was the first murderer? You will say it was Cain. No, Jesus tells us in John 8:44 –That Satan was a murderer from the beginning. Yes, Cain was the first human murderer- in a jealous rage he shew his own brother. Since the time of Cain, hundreds of thousands, ruled by Satan, have killed their victims. In the United States, three people are murdered every hour, twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days in the year. Life is sacred and must never be willfully destroyed. A. What Is Forbidden V. 13- Thou shall not kill. Well, God says that it is wrong, why?

Answer: Because no one has the right to take any ones life, that is only God’s right because he gave life, so He is the one in charge of the time for a person to die. Job 14: 5 – Seeing his days are determined, and the number of his months are with theeSince God is the one to determine how long a person lives; Him and Him alone has the right to take life.
What Is Forbidden

B. What Isn’t Forbidden 1. God does not forbid the killing of animals for food or clothing, or some other useful purpose Genesis 9:3 – Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you. Right there God was giving man permission to kill animals and birds for his own use. When Jesus was here on earth He ate the Passover lamb and provided fish for Himself and the disciples and the people to eat. In the story of the prodigal son He speaks of killing the fatted calf. 2. God does not forbid the killing of a thief or murder who breaks into your home Exodus 22:2 If a thief be found breaking up, and be smitten that he die, there shall no blood be shed for him. This simply means that if I wake up in the middle of the night and a thief or criminal breaks into my house to do my family harm, or me, I have the right to shoot him and no punishment will come to me because of it. While the law permits it, as a Christian I would not feel right in my conscience about it. It is a serious thing to send a soul into eternity. 3. God does not forbid killing in a just war

Many service men have been disturbed about this matter. They have gone out into battle and they know without a doubt that they killed another man. They ask the question,” am I a murderer?” The answer is, No, you are not a murderer.” We are citizens of a nation-we are subject to the powers, which are ordained of God. In the O.T. God commanded Israel to fight the nations of Canaan. God does not expect a nation to be boomed as when PEARL HARBOR took place and just idly sit by and do nothing. The Act of 9/11 brought on war. The United States is living in a different time period, and when we went to Afghanistan it was to keep more of the terrorist coming to our nation. II.. T he D iiversiity O f Murde r II T he D vers ty O f Murde You see, there is more than one way to murder, and I want to mention a few from the Bible. A. Physical Murder  This is the act of one individual taking the life of another, as we have already mentioned. B. Abortion  There is another outward killing- abortion- the taking of the life of the unborn. In 1973 in Roe verses Wade, the Supreme Court declared that it was not against the law for a mother to abort her unborn baby.
The Definition Of Murder

Since that time it is estimated almost 30,000,000 unborn babies have been killed in America. We are killing babies in America at the rate of a million and a half per year. That’s 4,000 times every day an unborn baby loses its life. It is safer in this country- and there will be more protection by lawfor snails in a river than for unborn babies in the wombs of their own mothers.

 

It is a national disgrace and horror. I think it is the worst tragedy in the history of America, the killing of the unborn. Somebody says,” Oh, Preacher, a woman has a right to her own body,” I am not talking about the body of the mother. I am talking about the body of that baby. That unborn baby is not merely a mass of tissue; the baby is a real life. Did you know that the word fetus is Latin for baby? It is amazing and ironic that in many instances the very ones who demonstrate against the death penalty in front of prisons, where a convicted criminal is going to be executed, are, in some instances, the same people who stand outside abortion clinics and want to defend the “right” of a woman to snuff out the life of an innocent, unborn baby. That breaks my heart. I believe that life begins at conception, and I feel that is beyond debate. I don’t think that any reasonable person can argue with the truth that life begins at conception. The Bible teaches that the unborn baby is a person. When Jeremiah was discussing his own call from God, God said to the prophet in chapter 1: 5 “ Before I formed thee in the belly, I knew thee. Before thou comest forth out of the womb, I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto all nations. Follow Me For Awhile In The Journey Of An Unborn Baby At seventeen days the unborn baby has new life in its own blood cells. At eighteen days the unborn baby has pulsation, which begins what will ultimately be the heart. At nineteen days the eyes start to develop. At twenty days the foundation of the entire nervous system is laid down. At twenty-four days the heart has regular heartbeats. At thirty-eight days the arms and legs are forming. You can place an object in its hand and it will grasp it. It can swim, kick, and turn somersaults. In thirty days regular blood flow and a vascular system are there. Eyes and nasal development have begun. At forty days the heart energy output is 20 percent of that of an adult. At

forty-two days the skeleton is complete. Reflexes are present. At forty-three days brain-wave patterns can be recorded. That is normally ample evidence that thinking is taking place. At fortynine days the baby appears as a miniature doll; at seven weeks with fingers and toes. At eight weeks, all the organs are function. Kidneys, liver, and brain—all systems are intact. All future growth developments from what are present at eight weeks. At nine or ten weeks, the baby squints, swallows, and sticks out its tongue. At eleven or twelve weeks, arms and legs begin to move. At sixteen weeks, sexual organs are differentiated. At eighteen weeks, vocal chords are working, the baby can cry. At twenty weeks, hair is on the head. The baby approximately will weigh approximately one pound—all of that in a twenty-week period of time. God says thou shalt not kill.

Here ARE Five Reasons Why Abortion Is Killing 1. The victim is unquestionably innocent. 2. The victim is helpless 3. The order to kill comes from the victim’s own mother. At least that’s what the abortion clinics claim. They tell us they always carefully counsel the mother about what they are about to do. 4. Abortion is paid killing- a business transaction. . If I went into detail on the process of abortion, it would offend you. For many, it would be physically sickening. The head is crushed and the body is mutilated. Or, if saline solution is used, it burns and poisons the baby’s body on the inside. God says” Thou Shalt Not Kill.”

C. Suicide Many a person makes a mess of his life through his own folly. This person doesn’t have the courage to face reality, so he doges out of life by suicide. We live in a time when every ninety minutes a teenager tries to take his/her life. Every 30 minutes one succeeds.

Sometimes suicide is committed by those whose minds become unbalanced and by those whose reason is dethroned. In these cases we have to suspend judgment. But when a person is rational, to commit suicide is to commit murder. There are some that says that all people including saved people will go to hell because God said that there would be no murderers in heaven. THE SUCIDE OF A SAVED PESON If a saved person commits suicide, they will go to heaven because they are saved and have eternal life, but they will go there uninvited. A saved person is not suppose to go to heaven when they choose too, they need to go when God has set the time, and he calls for that person to go to their real home in heaven. There have been saved people who have committed suicide because of a chemical imbalance. I have known some and have had their funeral. There have been some that have committed suicide because of some disaster that took place in their life, and they did not trust God with it. Illustration: Rick – Rick was a person that got saved in my living room at the first church that I pastured. Later on I took Eton Baptist Church and he had moved in that area and joined the church. Etc. on Rick loosing his business, and committing suicideThe Suicide Of A Lost Person When a lost person commits suicide, they are not getting out of their deli mea; they are exiting out of this world to enter into a place called hell, which will be a billion, billion times worse. Judas was lost, and he committed suicide because he thought that he couldn’t live with his conscience because he betrayed the Son of God. He hanged himself and woke up in HELL.

C. The Spirit Of Murder

When Jesus came, he not only forbade murder, but the spirit, which prompts it. Matthew 5: 21-22 Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shall not kill; and whosoever shall kill shall be in danger of judgment: But I say unto you, That whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger of the judgment.
 Jesus is saying that we should keep murder out of the heart.

That is where sin comes from.  You don’t have to shoot a person to commit murder; you have violated this commandment if you have murder in your heart.  Some people live lives of hatred. Every time they think of certain persons, they boil over with indignation. They wish for them to be hurt, even unto death.
 In the eyes of the law they are not guilty, because they have

shed no blood. But not so with God. He looketh on the heart and He counts them guilty of murder if they have murder in their heart.
 Caution: At This Point - 1 John 3:15 Whosoever hateth his

brother is a murderer: and ye know that no murderer hath eternal life abiding in him.  Now, the Lord is not talking about a lost person in this verse, but somebody that suppose to be saved hating another brother or sister in the Lord. III. The Deterrent O f Murde r III The Deterrent O f Murde A. The Deterrent Of Physical Murder 1. There Is Punishment By The Law If a state goes by the law of God in the word of God, which most states do, there would be less premeditated murders. Romans 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation.
The Definition Of Murder The Diversity Of Murder

Genesis 9:6 Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he-man. Why does God approve capital punishment? Because man is made in the image of God and no man has a right to lay hand on God’s image and go unpunished. So when the state kills a man in the electric chair for some heinous crime, the man who pulls the switch is not a murderer. By the way, if a murderer asks God for forgiveness, God will save that man and he will go to heaven, but he will have to pay for his crime on earth.
There Is Punishment By The Law

2. There Is Punishment By The Lord A murderer will pay for his crime on earth, and if he doesn’t get saved he will pay for the sin of all sins and that is rejecting Jesus as his personal Saviour. He will stand at the Great White Throne Judgment “Revelation 20:11-15” and then be cast into the lake of fire. These two things, punishment by the LAW and punishment by the LORD, should help deter a person from murder if they have discernment of these truths. B. The Deterrent Of Abortion The deterrent for abortion is to remember that you will take a human life, and that life is your child. Yes, God will forgive you if you ask Him down the road, but you will always remember that you killed your own child. That should deter any one who is contemplating abortion. C. The Deterrent Of Suicide 1. The Deterrent For A Saint Contemplating Committing Suicide  To know that you will be going to heaven uninvited and giving an account for not trusting the Lord with the problem or problems that would get one to think about suicide.

To know that you might end your problems and your hurt, but you are going to be hurting your loved ones left behind. It leaves emotional scars that never fully heal. Sometimes, children never get over the trauma that they have to face from a suicide parent. Etc. Rick’s Son Sometimes, parents never get over the trauma that they have had to face from a suicide child. Etc.

 

2. The Deterrent For A Sinner Contemplating Committing Suicide  A sinner who is contemplating suicide should remember that the hurt that they may feel in this walk of life which would cause one to contemplate suicide is nothing compared to the hurt and pain of spending eternity in hell for ever. D. The Deterrent Of Murder In The Heart 1. Deterrent By Remembering That There Is A Discerning Lord  When a saved person has hatred in their heart for a brother in Christ or anyone else, they need to remember that the Lord knows their heart

Man may never know the hatred which you have in your heart, but our Lord is a omnisent Lord, and He will not let you have any peace until your heart gets right, plus having to face Him at the judgement seat of Christ. This should cause a person who has murder in their heart from anger, to want to ask God to help them get this spirit out of their heart.

2. Deterrent By Remembering That There Is A Disciplining Lord  A person can deter murder in their heart by remembering what God has to say about some one who has wrong you.

Romans 12: 19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.

One might say, well preacher what should I do until God makes this person pays that hurt me. Next Two Verses: in Romans 12:20, 21 The Lord SaysTherefore if thy enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
