The new national underground notification telephone number is 811. After April 13 you will no longer need to dial the toll free 800 number to reach UNCC. Remember you need to call them at least 3 days prior to digging. EMPLOYEE FREE CHOICE ACT (EFCA) was introduced in the U. S. Senate this week by Senator Ted Kennedy. This act is neither free or a choice for employees in union elections. A recent survey released Tuesday, March 27 by the Coalition for a Democratic Workplace shows that 79% of union households agreed that “Secret ballot elections are the cornerstone of democracy and should be kept for union elections.” 74% of nonunion households agreed as well. When asked, “Do you support or oppose Congress passing the EFCA?” 80% of union households oppose the passage of this bill while 80% of nonunion households also opposed passage. They were also asked, “Would you be more likely or less likely to vote for a member of Congress who voted in favor of EFCA.” Union households were 75% less likely and nonunion households were 69% less likely. What does this say? Even the union members do not want to give up their right to a secret ballot. Union leadership is out of touch with their members and want their own agenda rather than listen to their members. Here’s another example of Washington being out of touch with the American people and working for special interests. You can send an email and express your opinion to our two senators, Sen. Allard and Sen. Salazar, by going to www.iecvotes.com. And be sure to give your employees the website address as well. WEBSITE LISTING OF MEMBERS If you would like your company logo shown on the new website along with your company information, please email your artwork to Mike Widner at firstname.lastname@example.org. SHARED-MAN PROGRAM – SPECIAL NOTICE It is our understanding if you loan an employee to another member under the shared-man program and he/she is injured on their jobsite, the claim goes under the workman’s comp insurance of the company whose payroll he/she is on. There has been some question about this issue. We suggest that you check with your workman’s comp insurance carrier in advance. When participating in the shared-man program, it is best that all business details be agreed to prior to loaning employees out so that there are no misunderstandings after the fact.
