Enhancing Security of Supply in Europe
conference organised by
Florence School of Regulation, Robert Schuman Centre for Advanced Studies,
European University Institute, Florence
Badia Fiesolana – 12-13 June 2008
The Theme
The European Union is increasingly dependent on external sources of primary energy.
They are provided by different markets, which differ with respect to competitiveness,
stability, reliability. They differ with respect to their present and future prices and to their
environmental impact. A widely shared worry of an increasing risk is not accompanied
by a consensus on the best solutions. Would they be provided by market on non-market
mechanisms? At the EU level or by Member States? The conference should provide some
clarification and help towards better understanding.
