Teaching licenses do not go across state lines. You will need to apply for a license in every state you wish to teach in. Every state has its own set of rules and policies regarding teacher licensing. What applies in one state may not apply in another. All endorsements you receive from River Falls are based upon licenses you are eligible for in the state of Wisconsin. We can not make special provisions for other states.

Basic issues related to certification/licensing


The University can not endorse a license application until all of the following are complete:
 



All grades must be recorded and posted on your transcripts. Degree seeking students, Your degree must be awarded and recorded on your transcript. (walking in the graduation ceremony does not constitute graduating) Your Certification Portfolio must be completed an approved and recorded on your unofficial transcript

Receiving a grade for student teaching
POSTING THE FINAL GRADE At the end of the semester, a grade of “I” will be turned in for any student teaching/intern placement not yet completed. The Registrar’s Office will also mail a letter indicating that the student has not completed all of the requirements for graduation. Once the placement is finished, and all required paperwork has been turned in, a grade change will be submitted and the “I” will no longer appear on the official transcript. The degree will be granted provided there are no other requirements to complete. GRADUATION Graduation does not occur when a student walks across the stage during the ceremony. It happens when the student successfully completes a program and the degree is posted on the transcript. A student may participate in the ceremony even though the student teaching/intern placement has not been completed. Students seeking certification only, who are not required to have a degree, only need to have completed all courses required in their certification program, and are required to have completed their certification portfolio.

Final Thoughts




Even if you are not planning to teach in this cheese eating, packer loving, cow tipping state…..Get your WI license. WI is considered your home state in regards to teaching credentials most other states will need to see proof you are eligible to hold a license in your home state. (I see many problems involving students who never got their license in WI.)

Employers who require a copy of your official license for a job application


There is no way you will have a official physical license for about 18 weeks. Often times schools who require this do not want to consider new graduates

Quick Tip #1


You can look up your degree, grades and portfolio information on your unofficial transcript on Esis!!
