SOUTH CAROLINA EDUCATION LOTTERY (SCEL) PARTNERS WITH SOUTH CAROLINA SEAFOOD ALLIANCE TO LAUNCH SHRIMP & GRITS 2

Shrimp & Grits 2 One of Lottery’s Newest Instant Tickets

COLUMBIA, SC—May 19, 2005— Shrimp and grits—the combination is a match made in “food” heaven. In South Carolina, it is a dish that represents heritage, history and tradition. That’s why South Carolina Education Lottery (SCEL) officials could not resist the temptation to launch a game called Shrimp & Grits 2. After the tremendous response from the initial run of Shrimp & Grits, a $1 lottery instant ticket, SCEL will launch its latest version, Shrimp & Grits 2, beginning June 6, 2005. This time, the Lottery partners with South Carolina Seafood Alliance to promote their new marketing brand of seafood—South Carolina Originals. Allen Brothers Milling Company, the owners of Adluh Flour, is donating their famous stone ground grits for the promotion and launch of the ticket. Part of the ticket design will feature the SC Originals logo. Players can win up to $2,000 instantly on a ticket. However, non-winning tickets will have a second chance to win prizes from the SC Seafood Alliance. Prizes include, but are not limited to, aprons, hats, coolers and yes, seafood, provided by the SC Seafood Alliance. “It was thrilling to have the South Carolina Education Lottery approach us about this natural partnership,” stated LouAnn Love, interim executive director of the South Carolina Seafood Alliance. “The Lottery’s educational focus and mission really go hand-in-hand with our initiatives to educate and promote the importance of buying fresh, local seafood.” “South Carolina’s culinary heritage has so much to offer,” said Pat Koop, SCEL’s director of marketing and sales. “This partnership gives us the opportunity to emphasize South Carolina’s tastiest natural resources.” -more-

To launch the ticket, SC Seafood Alliance and SCEL will organize a weeklong promotional tour across the state beginning June 6 visiting Charleston, Greenville, Columbia, Hilton Head Island, Beaufort and Pawley’s Island. In each city, a local restaurant will prepare various recipes for shrimp and grits. Consumers will be encouraged to submit their own recipes on SC Seafood Alliance and SCEL websites throughout the summer promotion. At the end of the summer, SCEL will draw three prize winners from the non-winning ticket entries received. Additional prizes provided by SC Seafood Alliance will be given out throughout the summer at various lottery retailers and promotions.
