Advice for New Students of Overseas Education College of Xiamen University Spring semester of 2010 (Feb. 22, 2010-July 9, 2010) Congratulations! You are admitted to the Chinese program of Overseas Education College (OEC) of Xiamen University (XMU). In order to help you to go through registration procedures smoothly, we list following instructions, hoping that it might be helpful for you. Visa Application Please apply for your visa in the local Chinese embassy with documents we sent to you, namely the Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Foreigners (Jw202 form), and other documents demanded by the local Chinese embassy, like photos, passport, or Health check record etc. You can apply for a proper visa based on your study plan and all visas below can be changed to multi-entry residence permit in Xiamen (400RMB if less than 1 year) with a valid Jw202 form: a. b. c. Student Visa (X Visa). It should be changed to F visa or Residence Permit within 30 days after entering China; Visitor’s Visa (F Visa), for students who will study in China for less than 180 days; Tourist Visa (L Visa 30 or 60 days), for short time study (No admission notice or Jw202 is needed). Physical Examination You can take a health examination in a hospital in your country with Physical Examination Record for Foreigners (http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/Health.doc ) and submit all test reports including blood test and chest X ray to OEC on registration dates. If your visa application doesn’t involve physical examination in your country, you can also do it here in Xiamen at the Entry-exit Inspection and Quarantine Bureau in Dong Du, Xiamen after you arrive. Insurance a. b. According to the Ministry of Education of China, foreign students planning to study more than 6 months in China are required to buy Group Integrated Insurance as a necessary registration procedure. The insurance premium is about 520RMB per year. Those who plan to study for less than 6 months can choose either Accident Medical Insurance at the premium of 100RMB for half year or Group Integrated Insurance at the premium of 260RMB for half year. Arrival at Xiamen University If you need us to pick you up, please give us your name, flight number, arrival date and time as well as number of passengers by fax, email or telephone in at least one week advance. The OEC driver will charge you 80-200RMB per time depending on the number of passengers. You can download the pickup service card at: http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/serviceCARD.doc If you come to XMU by taxi, you’d better enter the campus through Bai Cheng Gate, the gate near the beach, and ask the guard or Chinese students nearby for the way to Overseas Education College, Hai Wai Jiao Yu Xue Yuan in Chinese Pinyin. You can see OEC marked as “D” in the map of XMU at: http://oec.xmu.edu.cn/file/xmumap.jpg. There are banks, supermarkets, and other facilities inside and around XMU, and so it is unnecessary for new students to bring too many things for everyday use. Tuition Fee Payment Registration fee: 400RMB; Tuition fee: a. b. Long term Chinese program: 8000RMB/semester, 16000RMB/year Undergraduate Chinese program: 16000RMB/year for Grade 1 & 2; 18000RMB/year for Grade 3 & 4. Please pay your tuition fee and registration fee to the following bank accounts at banks in XMU after you arrive, keep the bank’s receipt and change it into a formal XMU invoice on registration. Tuition fee can not be refunded if you paid for one semester or less and decide to give up your study in OEC. If you paid for more than one semester and report to OEC about your decision to quit your study before the next academic term starts, the exceeding part can be returned to you according to relevant regulations of XMU. Registration procedures: Feb. 22nd and 23rd: a. Get Tuition Payment Notice from OEC, pay your tuition fee and registration fee in banks on campus (bank work hours: 9:00-17:00) and keep the bank receipt. b. Back to OEC, fill Registration Form for New Overseas Student and change the bank receipt for XMU invoice in OEC finance room. c. Update your information in our student system, such as passport number, visa validity, address, telephone number, invoice data. d. e. We will take a photo of you for e-card use. 20RMB of e-card production fee is charged. Please bring your passport, 4 photos and about 450RMB. No breakfast or water is allowed before the blood test. Class name lists with courses, classrooms and teachers’ names are published in the lobby of Lian Xing building. Meet the teachers in classrooms. Buy books in the multi-functional hall. Feb. 26th: March 1st: Class begins. Notes: The registration information above is listed for your reference and there might be some changes to the detailed procedures.
