Harvest Festival

We offer you a warm welcome to our worship today.
If you are a visitor to the church please make yourself known to the Vicar, or to one of the Welcomers or Churchwardens. Crèche facilities are available in the tower room at the back of the church. An induction loop is fitted for people with hearing aids – please turn to the T-position. All are welcome to come forward to receive communion or a blessing. Communion can be administered to someone in their seat – please ask. May God bless us as we gather together as his people.

WHAT’S ON IN THIS PARISH…
Harvest Festival, TODAY Sunday 1st October. This year our harvest cash collections will be in support of Tear Fund. Non-perishable goods will be given to the Bradford Curry Project. Please limit the amount of perishable goods you bring. Edward & Marjorie Gee’s Golden Wedding Celebration. Edward & Marjorie celebrated their Golden Wedding last Friday 29th September. Anyone wishing to join in the celebrations will be most welcome at 1 Holme Ghyll, Colne Road, Glusburn NEXT Thursday 5th October for a drink and cake from 10am to 12 noon, 1.30pm to 4.30pm and from 6.00pm. No presents please. Small donations if so inclined to be shared between Bible Lands work with children in the Middle East and our church building development fund. New monthly prayer and study meeting, 10.00am Thursday 12th October. This is the first of a new monthly meeting to learn about and pray for the work of the church worldwide. The first meeting will look at the work of the Barnabas Trust. More information from Sue Hargreaves, 633777. Lecture by local historian Ian Dewhirst, 7.30pm Saturday 14th October. We are looking forward to welcoming Ian Dewhirst back to St Andrew’s. Tickets £6 (£5 concessions), children FREE. More details from Isobel Stirk, 653997. Sunday 15th October. Please note that there will not be a 10am service at St Andrew’s on this date. All are encouraged to attend the CDFC United Service for One World Week at St Peter’s Methodist Church, Cross Hills. Fellowship & Focus discussion group, first meeting 7.30pm Monday 16th October. This is a new initiative from the Nurture Advisory Group. Come and discuss stimulating topics relevant to Christians in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere. More details in The Bridge page 22 or contact Kevin Feather, 635049. Children’s Society ‘All Together Now!’ Coffee Morning, 10.30am Wednesday 18th October at the Vicarage. As part of the Society’s first national coffee morning all are welcome to call in at the Vicarage between 10.30am and 12.30pm. Introducing Ministry Development Teams - an open meeting 8.00pm Wednesday 18th October. The Revd Tom Allen, Vicar of Oakworth, will speak about the Oakworth story. In the parish rooms. All welcome. Harp Concert, 7.30pm Saturday 28th October, featuring Margaret Knight, Prize Winner of the Royal Academy of Music and international performer. Tickets £6 (£5 concessions), children FREE. More details from Lesley Hudson, 633887. Bavarian Oompah Band Concert, 7.30pm Saturday 25th November. Due to an oversight by Ermysted’s School their Big Band is unable to come as previously arranged. The concert will now be given by a Herr Jen’s Bavarian Oompah Band. Bible Reading Fellowship’s New Daylight Bible Notes for September to December. These excellent notes offer daily Bible reading and comment for everybody who wants to travel further on their journey of faith. Only £3.35 a copy. Vicar’s Stall at the Autumn Fair. Robin will be pleased to receive small gifts from your holiday trip to sell on his stall at the Autumn Fair on Saturday 18th November.

Emmaus Nurture Group. A new Emmaus Nurture Group will begin on Wednesday 1st November, meeting on Wednesday evenings. The course will be suitable for people at all stages on the Christian journey: those enquiring about the Christian faith, those who have attended church for a long time but want a ‘refresher’, those thinking about Confirmation. WHAT’S ON ELSEWHERE…
Oasis Frontline Project. Stacey Gales, from Coventry and Tim Simmonds, from Stafford have now arrived and will be continuing the work done by Hannah Greaves and Vicky Fisher across CDFC. Please pray for Stacey and Tim as they begin their time with us. They will be officially welcomed at the CDFC United Service at 6.00pm NEXT Sunday 8th October at South Craven Baptist Church. Fairtrade Pre-Christmas Event, 10.00am NEXT Saturday 7th October at St Peter’s Church Hall, Cross Hills. More details from Gill Jowett, 632405. CDFC Quiet Spaces, 2.00pm & 7.00pm Wednesday 11th October. A second pair of Quiet Spaces have been arranged for October. The afternoon meeting will take place at Greenhowe, Park Road, Cross Hills and the evening meeting will take place at Braidagarth, Baxter Wood, Cross Hills. The theme will be ‘Lord of Creation’. CDFC United Service for One World Week, 10.30am Sunday 15th October at St Peter’s Methodist Church, Cross Hills. Northern Christian Resources Exhibition, Thursday 19th to Saturday 21st October. This event takes place at the Yorkshire Event Centre, Harrogate. Please let Robin know if you are interested in going. Pastoral Care of People with Dementia, 10.00am to 4.00pm Saturday 4th November. A day’s workshop at South Craven Baptist Church with Gaynor Hammond. Cost £10, including light lunch. For more information and to book pick up a leaflet. CDFC Presentation Jonah Man Jazz, 6.00pm Sunday 12th November at South Craven Baptist Church. Following the very successful musical telling of the Mary Jones story a CDFC choir will present the story of Jonah. Proceeds from the evening will go the Bible Society. Study morning: Looking at Gnosticism, 9.30am Saturday 18th November at Kadugli House, Steeton. The ‘success’ of The Da Vinci Code has brought Gnosticism into the limelight, but what was (or is) this strange movement all about? See poster for more details. 'The Church in the World' and 'Ecology and Community Development' are the big themes for the next Diocesan Day which will be held at Bradford Grammar School. The Revd Canon Sam Randall says, "There'll be exciting workshops with nationally known speakers as well as special events for young people. There'll also be Iona worship led by members of the Iona community.
