LG Display is previewing a 19-inch wide flexible e-paper display, which is almost as big as a piece of A3 paper. It's designed as an electronic newspaper, and gives the user the impression of reading a real newspaper. The 19 inch flexible display measures a tiny 0.3 millimeters thick, and weighs in at just 130grams. The display is made from metal foil, which allows the e-paper display to return to its original shape. LG's development of the world’s largest flexible display has opened up a new market in the nextgeneration display sector of e-paper. As the e-paper market is growing at a rapid pace, LG Display looks like it's going to have a big chunk of that market.

Displaybank, a Korea-based research firm specializing in the display industry, remarked that flexible display market is projected to grow into a USD 5.9 billion market by 2010, rising to USD 12 billion by 2015. LG used metal foil and plastic substrate rather than glass substrate for the construction of flexible color bendable and durable E-paper display. Thin-Film Transistors (TFT) on metal foil allows it to recover its original shape after being bent. These displays are energy efficient and as reported by the company they use power only when the image changes. The potential applications for this display are incredible and will allow manufacturers to create new products that are not only convenient to use, but also save natural resources. This represents the next generation in display technology. (www.lg.com) (video courtesy of team18infosys)
