C-SAFE Fact Sheet What is C-SAFE? C-SAFE: Cyber-Security Awareness for Everyone is a free, one-day seminar open to all Floridians who wish to keep themselves, their families, and their businesses safe from computer and Internet threats. C-SAFE gives citizens and small businesses insights on the dangers of the Internet, while providing valuable lessons on securing their computers against the many pitfalls that they could face while online. Why do people need C-SAFE? New cyber dangers continually surface that threaten Florida’s citizens. In 2002, Florida ranked second among states with the highest number of Internet fraud victims. With the threat of not only fraud, but also hackers, cyber-stalkers, child predators, and cyber-terrorism, C-SAFE provides essential knowledge to all computer users on how to protect themselves. "Cyber security is a critical issue for every citizen in our state and the C-SAFE course will provide Floridians with tools and tips on how they can make their systems safer and protect important data," Gov. Jeb Bush said. "I encourage Floridians to take advantage of this course to learn what steps they can take to protect their corner of cyberspace." What does C-SAFE cover? C-SAFE covers a variety of topics that are important to every computer user: Cyber Crime – how to protect yourself from viruses, worms, and other cyber attacks. E-mail Practices – how to recognize and avoid spam, frauds, scams, and e-mail hoaxes. Personal Security – creating strong passwords, preventing ID theft and cyberstalking, and avoiding online predators. Networks - wired and wireless network security, and the importance of firewalls.
