       This Ministry is regularly compiling and disseminating information on rural health
care services through a Bulletin on Rural Health Statistics in India based on the data received
from the State governments in the form of Quarterly Progress Report on Rural Health
Services. The relevance and importance of reliable and up-to-date statistics on rural health
care services has increased manifolds for proper formulation and effective implementation of
various schemes and programmes for strengthening of the rural health care infrastructure, as
envisaged in the National Rural Health Mission (NRHM). The last issue of this bulletin
provided data upto March 2006 and the present edition of this Bulletin provides data as on
March 2007.


       At the outset, I put on record the continuous support and cooperation received from
various States / Union Territories in providing the updated information on Rural Health
Infrastructure through the Quarterly Progress Reports. I acknowledge the efforts put in by all
the concerned state officials.


       The overall supervision and guidance of Shri Amarjeet Sinha, Joint Secretary along
with the efforts of Shri Rajesh Bhatia, Joint Director and Shri Mitter Saini, Statistical
Investigator, in preparation of the Bulletin including the presentation and preparation of
analytical write-up and final manuscript, need special mention.
