PRAIRIE VIEW A&M UNIVERSITY LONE STAR COLLEGE-CYFAIR JOINT ADMISSIONS PROGRAM FAQ What is the Joint Admissions Program? Prairie View A&M University (PVAMU) and Lone Star College System (LSCS) have entered into a Joint Admissions Program Agreement (JA). Effective fall 2008, students interested in pursuing or completing a bachelor’s degree in business can take Prairie View A&M University courses at the Lone Star College-CyFair campus. Prairie View A&M University will offer upper division courses leading to bachelor of business administration degrees in finance, management information systems and management. Who is the program for? Can I participate if I didn’t attend Lone Star College-CyFair? Any student who wishes to complete a bachelor’s degree in business may enroll in this program and take courses on either campus. However, students pursuing or who have completed an associate of arts (AA) degree with a field of study curriculum in business would most benefit. The courses and degree plans offered on the LSC-CyFair campus plans (finance, MIS and management areas) are prepared for this group of students. How does the program work? Students who attend Lone Star College-CyFair (LSC-CyFair) may transfer up to 72 credit hours to Prairie View A&M University to complete the degree requirements leading to a bachelor of business administration in finance, management information systems or management through the joint admissions program. Which courses can be transferred from LSC-CyFair? A list of transferable courses are available via the web at www.pvamu.edu or you can speak with an advisor in the College of Business at Prairie View A&M University by calling 936.261.9200 or sending an e-mail to cob@pvamu.edu. Do I have to attend classes on the main campus of Prairie View A&M University? Courses listed in the degree plans leading to a BBA will be offered at the Lone Star College -CyFair campus. Students may also take courses at the main campus or online as their schedules allow. How do I apply for admission to this program? • Complete the State of Texas Common Application at http://www.applytexas.org. • Pay the non-refundable $ 25.00 application fee. • Submit official transcripts from all institutions attended. • Prairie View A&M University requires a minimum 2.00 cumulative GPA on a 4.00 scale with at least 15 transferable college-level credits. • Submit transfer equivalencies When are the admission deadlines? Prairie View A&M University offers the fee payment plans for the payment of tuition and fees during the Fall and Spring Semesters. Prairie View A&M University Estimated Student Expense Budgets Academic Year 2008-2009, Fall and Spring Semesters Tuition & Fees (12 hrs – full time) $ 2,550 per semester - undergraduate resident of Texas Tuition & Fees (12 hrs – full time) $ 5,850 per semester - undergraduate non-resident of Texas Updated information may be found on the website at http://www.pvamu.edu/pages/4174.asp How do I apply for financial aid? Are scholarships available? What are the criteria and deadlines? The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) must be completed in order to apply for financial aid available through Prairie View A&M University. Students are able to complete the FAFSA beginning January 1 of the year preceding their enrollment in college. We recommend that the application be completed after January 1 and before May 1. A FAFSA can be obtained from your high school guidance counselor or from the Financial Aid Office. Students can also file online at: http://www.fafsa.ed.gov. The following tips will assist you with completion of the FAFSA: • the Federal School Code is 003630. • have your federal tax and income information available. • keep photocopies of your completed application and related documents for your reference. The transfer scholarship criteria are as follows: • Degree Distinguished Transfer Scholarship: Cumulative transfer GPA of 3.50 with an AA, AS or AAS. Award: $3,600.00 per year. • Degree Transfer Recognition Scholarship: Cumulative transfer GPA of 3.25 with an AA, AS or AAS. Award: $3,000.00 per year. • Degree Transfer Achievement Scholarship: Cumulative transfer GPA of 3.00 with an AA, AS or AAS. Award: $2,400.00 per year. • Distinguished Transfer Scholarship: Cumulative transfer GPA of 3.50 with a minimum of 24 non-PVAMU college hours completed. Award: $2,400.00 per year. • Transfer Recognition Scholarship: Cumulative transfer GPA of 3.25 with a minimum of 24 non-PVAMU college hours completed. Award: $1,800.00 per year. • Transfer Achievement Scholarship: Cumulative transfer GPA of 3.00 with a minimum of 24 non-PVAMU college hours completed. Award: $1,200.00 per year. • Transfer Incentive Award: Cumulative transfer GPA of 2.50 – 2.99 with 15 transferable semester credit hours; THEA exempt or all sections passed.
