Norwegian Coastal Voyage
Every day of the year a ship leaves Bergen, bound for Kirkenes in the far north. Whilst the comfortable cabins and superb cuisine rival many a cruise-liner, these are working ships, providing a lifeline to many small communities.
There are three different types of ship in regular service on the route – the six ‘New Ships’ being the mainstay of the fleet. Three larger ‘Millennium Ships’ were introduced in 2002 and 2003. The smaller ‘Mid-generation Ships’, built in the 1980s complete the fleet, although during the winter months there are also the older ‘Traditional Ships’ in operation. All ships offer restaurant, cafeteria, bar and lounges, all have lifts except the traditional ships and the cabins we feature have private shower and wc. Three berth cabins are also available in some categories, as well as cabins specially adapted for the disabled. We will be happy to advise and assist in finding the right ship and the best available cabin to suit your requirements. Full details on the comprehensive range of shore excursions are also available on request.

A new ship leaving Tromsø.

THE VOYAGE OF A LIFETIME 12 NIGHTS
DEPARTURE DATES: Daily throughout the year. ITINERARY DAY 1. BERGEN Fly to Bergen (see page 26 for timetables, and page 27 regarding transfers). Ship departs 20.00 in the period 15 April – 14 Sept, and at 22.30 outside this period. DAY 2. MÅLØY – KRISTIANSUND Briefly docking at Florø and Måløy in the night, the ship proceeds to the lovely Art Nouveau town of Ålesund. In the off-season there will be three hours to explore, while from 15/4-14/9 the ship travels deep into the spectacular Geirangerfjord before continuing northward to Molde and Kristiansund in the evening. DAY 3. TRONDHEIM – RØRVIK At 06.00 the ship docks in Trondheim with six hours for you to enjoy this historic city. Ahead lies the longest non-stop stretch of the voyage. Time to relax as you pass through some 6,000 islands and ‘skerries’, before reaching Rørvik at 21.15. DAY 4. ØRNES – SVOLVÆR Brief stops in the night at Brønnøysund and Sandnessjøen, then in the early hours you cross the Arctic Circle. Passing the mighty peaks of the Børvass mountains you arrive in Bodø around lunchtime, with time for a couple of hours ashore. From Bodø the ship heads towards the majestic ‘Lofoten Wall’, calling at Stamsund and Svolvær in the evening, where you will have the chance of an hour ashore. DAY 5. HARSTAD – SKJERVØY During the night the ship calls at Stokmarknes, Sortland and Risøyhamn, arriving in Harstad early in the morning, with a little time to go ashore. Continuing through Vågsfjord and Malangen, there is a brief stop at Finnsnes, before arrival in Tromsø, with three hours in the capital of Arctic Norway, before continuing northwards to Skjervøy. DAY 6. HAMMERFEST – KIRKENES Øksfjord is passed in the night, and early morning brings you to Hammerfest – the world’s most northerly town. Soon after you will encounter a dramatic change in the scenery – a result of icebergs, wind and the allpowerful sea changing the contours of the land. Late morning arrival in Honningsvåg with a chance to visit the North Cape.

Shorter Voyages
Half-voyages are possible in either direction, and can be added to other arrangements to give a wonderfully varied holiday. Port-to-port sectors are also possible, but in summer the number and range of cabins is rather limited. On port-to-port sectors cabin grade will be confirmed at time of booking, but actual cabin will only be allocated on embarkation. Meals can be purchased in the restaurant or cafeteria. Cars can also be carried if you would like a relaxing break on a motoring holiday.
